Brand new Mk3s Printer won’t start up...

Hi,

I just finished building my i3 mk3s...

Checked. Re-checked. Preflight.  Watched YouTube video one more time.  Then I was ready for the first switch-on... Nothing.

I think the issue is the PSU - I have the Black one.

I’m trying to troubleshoot...

Firstly Does the power switch light up when power is available?  Mine doesn’t.  I tried with the cable that came with my printer and another cable that I know is good.

How can you tell if the fuse is blown? Mine is white ceramic and I can’t see the filament wire.

Thanks for any help I can get.

Mine had the same symptoms as yours when I built it.

Turns out the power cord was not fully inserted. That socket is tight...

@robert-rmm200

Thanks very much for the quick response.

This is a picture of the power cord supplied with the printer inserted in the socket as far as I can get it to go.  Can it go further?

The mains power was “on” when I took the photo. No light at the power switch.  The Printer wouldn’t start-up  even after 2 or 3 cycles of the toggle switch.

Any ideas for a next step?

Ok Update...

The PSU is good.

Disconnected everything from it turned it on and got 24V on both rails and a little green LED.  So I’m OK that the PSU is good and my power cord is connected adequately and working.

Next step taken:

Disconnected everything from the MOBO and re-did the all of the connections.

Turned on the Power.  Nothing. Green LED stayed unlit.

Not sure what to do next.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I think it is time you called in the big guns.

But maybe first - disconnect one rail at a time, and see which one is killing the PSU.

Then click on EShop above. Log into the store.

Support is the Chat button in the lower right. They can step you through it.

Unfortunately - don't bother sending them EMail. Chat actually works.

@robert-rmm200

Fixed!

thanks Robert for your thoughts in helping with the Trouble shoot.

Disconnecting one rail at a time highlighted the issue.

The first rail failed to start alone

The second started alone.

When I Swapped the connections at the PSU.  The opposite happened.

The final issue was that I’d connected up power to the MOBO as +ve +ve -ve -ve

it should be +ve -ve +ve -ve.

Thanks Again!

James

There are specific instructions to make sure you don’t do that. Iirc they are in big red text.

@neophyl

Yeah I’m aware of that... mildly embarrassed on an international level.

Gotta be glad for polarity protection.

Once the power was sorted out the machine calibrated on the first go, all square, no errors.
