Anyone know how to fix consistant jamming on the first few layers?

I've been running my mk3s for hundreds of hours, but all of a sudden I'm having an issue where it jams during the first or second layer on MOST prints. If I unload the filament, cut off the end and reload that fixes it for that print, but it's annoying.

By jam I mean it starts making an intermittent *klunk* sound, and the extrusion reduces down to just a wisp. I'm using prusament PLA, Jet Black. It might be coincidence, but I've only recently started using this filament, where I had been using "Prusa PLA" and other filaments not manufactured by Prusa.

I'm using the default slicer settings for prusament PLA. Smooth PEI build surface. I clean it with soapy water in a spray bottle before every print, followed by some gluestick diluted in water which I wipe on and let dry (I've found that this solution improves bed adhesion a lot without making a mess).

I had that live z adjust set to -0.99 mm. I tried adjusting that to -0.95, but the part peeled up from the bed. The first layer looks good z-cal wise, with very slight ridges caused by the nozzle path.

I also tried tightening the idler tensioner beyond the recommended setting and that didn't seem to help

I'm using printer firmware 3.9.3 with prusa slicer 2.3.0.

My current guesses are that it's either printing too fast, or overextruding. Has anyone else had this problem and/or found a solution?

Thanks
Drew

There may be cooked-in heat damaged filament in the hot-end so try a cold-pull and give the bed a thorough clean with hot water to remove any build-up.

Cheerio,

Thanks I'll try that and report back.

So far so good, I started the same print again where I had the issue and it seems to be gone now. I think the cold pull is what did it.

Thanks again!
