XYZ Calibration fails....but seems to work

So I got an XYZ calibrations fail. And I have read all the posts about other people and their XYZ fail.

However, I can't get my head wrapped around WHY it is failing.

This is a 2S which just got upgraded to 2.5, so there was no real frame disassembly and the unit worked fine prior to the hardware and firmware upgrade.

The hotend moved to the first point and the Pinda is lite up. And as it does its little dance the Pinda flashes and twinkles, which I take for "I found the point". I can watch it do a general search and then it narrows down to the area of the reference point. The Pinda lite stays off for awhile while the Pinda narrows in the exact spot. Then it lites up and moves on to point number two.

This Pinda flashing occurs at all four points....so that tells me it did in fact find all four points.

But then suddenly after the fourth point ends, the hotend stops and I get the standard message that confuses all of us.
"Calibration failed. Refer to manual".

So if all four points are found (according to the Pinda activity) what exactly is it complaining about....and how do I go about fixing it.

I am only guessing ... but ... did you do a FULL FACTORY RESET with DATA CLEAR? Might be some old cal constant hanging around so it's detecting too many or too few steps between the cal circles? Also - is the actual bed the right one the printer is expecting to cal to? Hoping someone else has a better answer.

Re: XYZ Calibration fails....but seems to work

Having the same issue with my upgraded 2.5 printer. Oddly, it worked after the initial upgrade. But after one of the previous firmware updates I re-ran xyz calibration and had it fail. Re-ran after a reboot and it completed. Since then, and after a couple more firmware upgrades,, tried xyz calibration again and it continually fails. Same symptoms, it goes through all four points then pauses for a moment before showing the error message. I have noticed that the pinda probe isn't quite aligned over the center of the white circles when it does the spiral checks. Almost like the end-stop for the bed is slightly off, but none of those parts were ever changed since the initial 2.5 upgrade that was successful.

To tim.m30's point, I didn't realize that there were values still stored after a firmware update. I thought that everything was completely removed with a firmware change, but I'll try the manual factory reset option when I get home and see if that's any different. I'm always careful to flash the firmware for my particular printer (2.5, now 2.5S) with the correct rambo board version. I can still print fine without the calibration completing, it's just odd that it doesn't work for so many of us.
