Upgrading MK1 to MK2 Heartache

So I've been running into several problems upgrading from the Prusa MK1 to MK2. I bought the MK1, my first 3D printer, from FolgerTech during the summer and recently decided to upgrade to the MK2 because I was sick of calibrating and all the other lovely features.

Folger Tech Prusa - https://folgertech.com/products/folger-tech-reprap-prusa-i3-clear-frame-full-3d-printer-kit-ramps-gt2

While upgrading, I realized several problems. The X-axis (long rods) don't fit because they are way too long to fit the frame, so I switched them with the Y-axis (mid sized) rods to make them work; I had this same problem with the initial assembly too. Also, I'm missing the 625 bearing, 5/16th shaft, extruder springs, and print fan that was assumed included in the MK1 build. Along with that, the MK1 I have runs an Arduino Mega / Ramps 1.4 micro controller whereas the instructions refer to the RAMBO board.

I can likely get the missing hardware parts at the store, but will I need to buy a RAMBO and a print fan?

Thank you all!

Re: Upgrading MK1 to MK2 Heartache

Hi Matthew

What you bought previously was not a "Prusa Original" but a clone. The upgrade from the Mk1 to the Mk2 is only designed for the "Originals" and not clones.

Unfortunately, I don't know if anyone here will be able to help.

Shoot, that's what I was afraid of... Thanks for the reply.

Well I'll probably be able to figure out alternatives for everything, but the RAMBo will likely be a necessity for the PINDA to work properly. Is the print fan a requirement or a recommendation? If it is greatly needed, could you provide a link to where I could find one? I was unsuccessful in my search for that model.

Thanks

Matthew

The original uses the E3D V6 hot end. If your extruder does not use a fan, then you will most likely not need one.

E3D stuff here: http://e3d-online.com/ and I think they have a link to their overseas distributors if required.

Did you get new gt2 toothed wheels for the and y motors? Your originals were probably larger.

You could try a Chinese 5015 fan for part cooling. My prusa gave overcooling so blessed quality fan maybe adequate
