Shifting layers only at 0.05mm

Hi,

I've only had my printer for a few days and everything is working great...however only when I'm printing at 0.15mm or above for 0.05mm I always get Shifting layers (on the bed it travels towards the Y in the direction of the Prusa logo side) the offset occurs after around 2mm of height and offsets a distance of around 6mm.

Any ideas what could cause this to only occur on fine details, is the print head too close maybe?

Thanks,

Jon

Okay, so this is due to sliping y axis, it only slips during specific movements, and it's only a little loose, so I should be able to resolve this.

Looks like no one replied to you in a few days. A few questions if you dont mind.

Was your printer pre built or did you assemble it yourself? Relates to the next question.

If self assembly did you mount your belts really tight? If so loosen them just a little. They need to be tight but not so much that they sound like a guitar string high note. You don't want any slack in the belt but to tight and the stepper struggles to move the axis especially in "silent mode"

Are you printing in "Silent mode" or "High powered mode". A good way to tell if belt tension is to much is to do the same print in both modes. Try a test print for this. If layer shift happens in silent mode then loosen the belt.

Check the alignment between pulley and stepper. If the belt sways or shimmies while printing then your out of alignment and will need to adjust it. This can be done by loosening the grub screws on the stepper and moving the axis back and forth. The belt should pull it in to alignment then tighten the grub screws on the stepper.

Hope that puts you in the right direction.

Thanks GenCab, it was that it was too loose, I'll run the silent check just in case it ends up too tight now 🙂 thanks for the tips!
