Problems printing with Hatchbox PETG filament.

Hi guys,

Wondering if you have any idea why I am getting loads of small bubbles when printing and why the filament looks puffy / foamy when coming out from extruder.

I have no problems when printing abs and pla .

I am using Hatchbox white PETG and I tried printing with noozle 240 - 255 and bed 90 , but I am getting the same results.

Thanks

Re: Problems printing with Hatchbox PETG filament.

the effect that you describe means: the filament has soaked up humidity from the air -> it's hygroscopic.
by the way: you should have heard some crackeling noise from the hotend when printing your bubbles...

💡 unfortunately petg filament differs from brand to brand.
now the opinions about petg and being hygroscopic differs at the http://www ... which might have to do with the fact that some brands are very hygroscopic, others aren't.

➡ so treat it like nylon filament: put it in the oven at about 60°C for at least two hours. then the humidity inside the filament should have disappeared and you should be able to print with it as good as with pla.

🙄 personally i like to print with transparent petg filament (from herz here in germany) at 255°C hotend and 90° bed temperature. 😛

dem inscheniör is' nix zu schwör...

It does look like typical moisture.
Also watch out for counterfeit Hatchbox filament. It is all over Amazon and eBay. Hatchbox only has 4 (at last check) authorized sellers.

Re: Problems printing with Hatchbox PETG filament.

When printing with the Hatchbox PETG I set the hotend to 240 and the bed to 75 and it works very well. However I do keep the spools in a sealed box with desiccant which keeps the humidity level at 20%-23%.
