Printing directly to printer with Slic3r ?

Been using Cura since I got the printer but now I wanna try the Slic3r but I don't know how to send the file directly to the printer via USB cable. Is this possible with the latest Slic3r without using SD card and if so how?
Thanks

Not that I know of.

Slic3r does not offer that, but it can send the print directly to octoprint.

So, you would install octoprint on the computer connected to the printer, and send the gcode from slic3r to that.

I believe the application you'd use to control the printer over USB from the Prusa drivers package is Pronterface. I don't have much experience with that myself since I use octoprint running on a raspberry pi connected to the printer.

Quite like Repetier Host which can be used as a Slic3r front end. You can set up different slicers inside the config and have full printer control.

Go to File/Preferences. Remove flag "Disable USB/serial connection".
In Printer settings select correct COM port and setup speed to 115200. Press "Test".
On "Platter" tab you can press "Print" button. On "Controller" tab you can controll printing process.

Direct printing from Slic3r over serial / USB seems to work very well and there is also a nice jog control like in Simplify3d. Wonder why it is not enabled by default and used much?

I`d guess they have disabled it to minimize support issues related to Windows and such. Would not be suprised if people blame Prusa, or the printer for stopping, when the deside to reboot their computer... Nice to see it`s there, even if it`s hidden tough!

The tooltip mentions that it's disable by default to simplyfy the UI incase people never connect the USB cable.

I wouldn't say that's necessary to disable by default.

Well technically everything is disabled by default when you think about it. When I got my MK3 in the mail, when it was in the box, it was very disabled by default! 🙂

Well unless it is me, I cannot find for the life of me this option in the latest github version, just like I had it in the older Slicer version, it was so easy with the older version to connect like said above.
