New Update bricked my 3D Printer?
Hi guys,
Recently decided to return to my 3D printing and thought 'what the hell lets update it and re calibrate it see how things have moved along in the last 5-6 months!' Big mistake.
Downloaded the newest firmware - hooked it up. It was all going perfect the normal solid progress bar filled all of the top line and about 70% of the bottom line until the screen just started displaying 'w' - the 'w' started replacing over the progress bar and eventually filled the entire screen. Computer says firmware update complete. But my screen is still all full of 'w's so I leave it another 10 minutes or so. Still no change so I decided to reset the printer. Turned it off and back on and I've no display. No Printer. Nothing. Just a blank screen. The Screen lights up but displays nothing.
Tried to re firmware update it twice more. But visually I'm seeing nothing anymore. Even tried to roll it back to a previous version but still nothing...
I'm just going to say that I've previously updated it 3-4 times when I DID use my Prusa... So I do know how its meant to be done. I don't know what previous firmware I had on it, but its been months since I've used the printer so maybe 3_0_9?
What happened? Did I do something wrong? Most importantly... How do I fix it???

Can you upload the Firmware ? Is it accepting the Firmware ? In yes, it is Not really bricked. Maybe you using the wrong Firmware ?

Even if the firmware in the printer was garbled, the printer is not bricked.
It just means it will not be possible to install a new firmware over usb, until you have a new firmware on it.
If that is the case, you will need to get a in-circruit-programmer for Atmel chips, and write the firmware that way.
Those programmers are not expensive, and you can even use an adruino if you have one laying around.
It is a bit more complicated though, and you might need to research the procedure a bit.

I had a similar problem. I had to use Arduino to upload the firmware to fix it. The Firmware Updater program wouldn't do it, and I ended up with a locked up machine. It took the Arduino upload first try.

yeah, but make sure that you install the matching version of arduino. otherwise you won't be able to compile the prusa firmware and/or get into problems loading it up to the printer.
with allen.d's script I was able to install easily the correct version (with the required libraries and board definitions) beside an existing one.
take in mind not to update any bootloader or board definition stuff if arduino notices that there are newer versions available.
if you need to program the rambomini with an in-circuit-programmer, take in mind that there are two micro-controllers operating at the rambomini, an atmega 32u2, which does the usb communication stuff, and the actual atmega 2560 which holds the printer firmware. so the board has two icp connectors, to program either the 32u2 or the 2560.
if your computer still see's a com-port when you connect the printer, the flash content of the atmega 32u2 should be ok and you only need to reprogram the atmega 2560.

If you can upload the firmware, the rambo is not bricked 😉
Doublecheck if you using the right firmware.
