MK2 probe protector too big?

Hi,

I just printed the MK2 P.I.N.D.A. PROTECTOR from here http://www.prusa3d.com/downloads/others/mk2_probe_protector.zip
And it doesnt fit, because the hole/threads are too big. I can put it on and off without even touching the threads on the probe.

Does anyone know if this STL is maybe for an older, thicker probe?

Or did I download the wrong file?

Hi Marco,

you can try my design, available here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1617374

In this case you will have to make the thread using a threaded pole or a bolt.

And be sure to use ABS, my version is wider then closer to the extruder, so heat resistant material is mandatory.

I'm like Jon Snow, I know nothing.

Thanks for the reply, but I don't have ABS available, I was printing it in PETG, which apparently has "similar" heat resistance, whatever that means. I was unable to find out, if PETG can actually be used for parts close to the extruder, so This would have been an experiment.

If it would fit 🙂
You don't happen to have the measurements of your probe? Then I could compare it with mine to find out if its smaller.

Re: MK2 probe protector too big?

Well I'm not close to my printer right now but AFAIK, there is only one size for the PINDA probe (M8).

Mine's too big too. I folded a papertowel in half & screwed it on over that, and trimmed off the excess papertowel. been working fine for a few months now.

Ok, i'll dig up some M8 and see if it fits.

Ok! thanks, so one vote for "nothing wrong with my calibration".
I think I'll do the same, but maybe we can get someones attention from Prusa to check the pinda protector stl.

Re: MK2 probe protector too big?

You can also experiment with various slicer parameters, threaded part result can vary a lot depending of these parameters, due to the sharp angle of the threads.

Just run also into that. It just flaps in the breeze.

Who designed that part which we can officially download from prusa3d?

Did my own now.

Re: MK2 probe protector too big?

I think I read that the Orange parts that Prusa supply are PETG and the black are ABS. not sure why the difference, maybe they are easier to print.. I have used PETG to print my replacement parts so far, so should be fine.
I also printed the Pinda from the Prusa web site... 3 times at .2, .1 and even .05.. none fitted although one fitted an old pen I had lying around so use that to tap the desk occasionally.

Other way around. The orange parts are ABS, the black are either PET or PETG (I forget which).

You think you have it? 😉

I will put some more Blend/STL Files online to thingieverse but here it is. http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1945892

I have a spool holder with integrated filament guide, a protector for the X axis motor cables and hearing holders for the bed, all nothing new but interesting (I think) for Blender users. Stay tuned.

Carsten

PS: Somehow the PINDA is not quite M8, my M8 bolts hardly fit into my Pinda Protector, so I did a scaling only to find that than it is too loose on PINDA. So I printed it 4 times including the "original" 😡

Re: MK2 probe protector too big?

I having the same issues printing the protector listed on the the prusa site. Its way too big, unless this was meant for a larger probe that had ben replaced. I can slip it on without even screwing it in, infact it has quite a bit of play and wont hold at all. I printed it in ABS and thought i might be shrinkage due to the material ,but stubbled on to this thread.

Re: MK2 probe protector too big?

Actually, that's just the opposite, Orange ABS and black PETG. That's why you can glue borken PINDA support with acetone as a temporary workaround if you encounter this issue.

Same here, scale it to 96% and it will be perfect.

Yuo need to use a ISO metric profile M8x1 thread model, Fusion 360 can do it.

Urgh! Did not expect a M8x1 there! Stupid me.
