ColorFabb HT

Hi there,

I've just ordered a spool of ColorFabb HT. I've heard that it can handle higher temps without softening and is FDA approved. Ideal for a project that I'm doing.

Has anybody had any experience with this product?

Any suggestions for nozzle\bed temp, print speed etc for the i3 Mk2.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Just as an update.

Noticed that there is a pre-set for ColorFab HT in Prusa Slicer.

Tried using Simplify 3D because you can delete supports that you don't want. (When is this coming to slicer!?!)

Anyway, keep the PETG settings the same but go for 110 C bed with a 265 C nozzle.

Also, you may want to add a brim as after the fan kicks in, bed can drop to 95C-100C which can cause high prints to lose bed traction and slip off.

ColorFab HT is touch and go when it comes to bonding with the MK2 bed at those slightly lower temps.

Also, i found that I had to keep fans down to 40% for layers and 60% for bridges, else the 265 nozzle temp would drop too far and give a thermal runaway.

Anyway ColorFab HT works great in the +100C environment. I would recommend using for dishwasher parts or things exposed to 100C or above.

Doesn't even go the slightest bit soft at these temps unlike PETG et al.

Cheers.

Re: ColorFabb HT

Thanks for the info. I usually do not run the print cooling fan at all for a lot of my prints . Have you tried off with HT ? I would be curious.

Hi,

No, I never tried printing without a cooling fan.

I did print one item with a raft and that raft layer had no cooling fan. Those first raft layers looked slightly 'wet' at 110C bed.

I got the feeling that if you added layer after layer without cooling, the HT would accumulate a lot of heat and perhaps get too sticky.

The slicer settings recommend fan use so I carried that over to Simplify 3D.

HT is very similar to PETG in how it handles. If you can print PETG, HT should give you no problems. In fact it's less stringy.

Cheers,

Re: ColorFabb HT

Insulate the hot end. It will stop those big drops in temperature when the fan kicks in.
E3D has silicone socks for the v6. They're cheap.

Can you get a sock for the non-cartridge type thermistor like the one I have?

If so, I will be getting one.

Re: ColorFabb HT

I'm helping my brother create new emblems for the small camping trailer he's restoring and need a filament that will stand up to the elements...heat, sunshine, rain, snow, ice. Will the ColorFabb HT do the job? The one on top in the attached photo is the one I drew up and printed using MakerGeeks Raptor Series PLA, which is supposed to be UV fast and heat resistant up to 260F. But when we boiled it to anneal it, it warped and shrunk. We'll do more experimenting with the annealing process, but I'm looking for other options.

Thanks,
Rich
