Upgrade order of installation?

Hello All!
I have somehow managed to get two upgrades at the same time. My issue is that I don't know which one to install first. I have the MK2S upgrade and the multi material upgrade. If I install the MKS first are the parts that came with the multimaterial upgrade compatible? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you, Rick

Re: Upgrade order of installation?

So the MK2S Upgrade requires you print 2 upgrade parts (X Carriage and Extruder body). You don't really need the extruder body, as the Multi Material kit will come with a new version. So you really only need the X Carriage printed from MK2S files.

The MM kit requires less to take apart, but both upgrades you will have to undo your X carriage cable wrap and hot end housing. MK2S you have to remove bed, and entire X axis and Z axis.

If you have not printed your MK2S parts yet. I would highly recommend you do that before installing MM upgrade. With MM you will have to re-slice all your existing GCodes as the priming code, and retraction settings iare very different. BTW be careful with the loose 100gram of Orange ABS, it has tendency to get tangled. Best of luck there, as I had it tangle twice.

Oh and MM might take some time to tune! I am still working on some clogging issues.

The MM upgrade should be installed on a tested and working printer.

Better to install the S upgrade first, make sure all is OK and then install the MM upgrade.

I also ordered S and MM upgrade at the same time, currently waiting for them to arrive. I also upgrade mine partially to S, only the printed parts were fitted currently. My plan is to fit S equipment then go into MM in one go

I also suggest the following procedure:
1. Print new X-carriage for MK2S
2. Upgrade your MK2 to MK2S
3. Make a test print to ensure it is working
4. Upgrade from MK2S to MK2S MM

Mine is partial S, that means mine should able to work properly after fully upgraded with S parts then MM? 😎

Don't forget you will be removing the bed and bearings; yes it should be fine, but you really do need to do a few prints to test it out before MM upgrade.
