Ligament management

Now the ligament spools are parked in the cradles, the ligaments get kind of tangled with the x-axis spiral wrap.
How do you deal with that?

Re: Ligament management

hi Bert,

I have my filament reels on a shelf with ptfe tube guiding the filament to the extruders, see the pictures below

there is a break in the bowden to prevent back feeding causing the filament to come off the reel sides and tangling

regards Joan

Hi Joan,
That is a nice idea.
I thought the filament is hygroscopic.
Is there no need to store the spools in a container?

Not needed for simple PLA.

PVA, that's a different story.

Ideally, you should store it sealed with silica gel, but you will be OK without for a few weeks. PLA will "go off" when it gets damp; it's quite obvious when this happens. The extrusion will become a little porous and the temps will need increasing.

I have more or less folowwed Joans idea. I have the spools on a shelve under the printer.
But, the PTFE with the filaments inside, still mess up with the spiral wrap.

@PRUSA, there must be a beter way do deal with this?

A guy on thingiverse had this brilliant idea:

I made myself one of those (and added a few alu strips to stabilize). It works very well, the filament is fed slightly above the wire harness.
