So, So Close.......Now This (MMU2S Reset Randomly Between Color Changes)

me: My name is Charlie and I am an MMU2 addict.

you guys: Hi Charlie

That's seriously how this feels. I was an early adopter of the MMU2. I've been through all the trials and tribulations. I've had successes and so, so many failures.

I feel like I have things almost perfectly (he says) dialed and now recently the MMU2S unit will randomly reset when a filament unload is initiated. My current setup:

- MK3S with Bondtech extruder upgrade running FW 3.7.2

-MMU2S running FW 1.0.6

-Skinnydip post-processing script

Mechanically everything is running perfectly. I've had serviceable tips only using the Skinnydip script. The issue is this:

- Print will start and run fine for 10-100 tool changes

- At some point during a tool change the MMU will reset. This is what happens:

  1. Extruder moves to wipe tower as normal and begins the unload process.
  2. Unload process goes as normal all the way to the point where the filament is ejected out of the extruder and the MMU is supposed to take over.
  3. The MMU responds like you hit the reset button on the side of the MMU itself. It goes through the light show and attempts to home the selector barrel.
  4. During all of the resetting shenanigans the filament is usually now stuck in the extruder

I've been on and off with support but feel this issue is beyond the frontline. Thoughts?? Your experience and insight would be much appreciated.

TIA!

Do all 5 red lights blink before it resets? That means it sensed a motor stall (mmu equivalent of a crash detect). It auto-resets to try again and clear the condition.

Check your tensions and filament paths for friction.

I'm reasonably sure that, when I've seen it happen in real-time, that all five red lights do blink. Your explanation explains the random nature and the abrupt behavior. Thank you! At a minimum it gives me those next few steps to chase that sweet, sweet dopamine hit. 😆 😆

Quick update: I replaced a suspect PTFE tube and just barely loosened the tensioning screws and things seem to be running well. I'm reaching the 12 hour mark on a 5 color print with no issues yet. That's a record for me and I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
