Re: Cura print settings

Hi Jaime

Thank you for taking the time join this forum and for your response.

It is great to hear that you are finding some time to look at issues with other printers and that time is well appreciated by many Prusa "original" users.

I think your reply may have persuaded me to have another look at the latest version of Cura (still on 15.04.6) to see how it performs.

Glad to hear this!

On a different note; Most of the differences between legacy (15.04) and new Cura (2.x) have been made to make it much easier to contribute. Old Cura only had hard coded machines, hardly any way to add functionality by means of plugins and hardcoded visual elements.

For those of you that are interested in Cura development in general, we also have an IRC hanel (#cura-dev) on freenode.

For those of you that are interested in Cura development ...

Hi Jaime! It is awesome to see you in here!
I noticed the MK2 support is merged. I cannot test it now as I am travelling but with this most of this topic is not needed anymore!

Can I somehow link to the beta release directly? I would do so from the driver page and I don't want people accidentally downloading the 2.1.X which unfortunately didn't play well with MK2.

I edited the initial post http://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-i3-mk2-f23/cura-print-settings-t999.html#p7452 to add more info. Exciting news! Thank you all guys.

I don't know if that's possible. It shouldn't matter al that much though, as I expect that we will release the 2.3 final very soon. We still need to wait for the translations to be done.

Re: Cura print settings

I've been doing a few prints with cura 2.3 beta. It works very well.

Has anyone else noticed that both the zigzag and grid supports that Cura generates are hard to remove? I've used cura 2.1.3 before with an ultimaker 2+, and with that machine with the default settings the supports would just snap off easily. Here it requires a lot of force and time.

I'll try experimenting with the support Z distance tonight, see if i can improve it.

Re: Cura print settings

I find Cura generates very nice paths with minimal effort, what I really can't find is an option to start layer in a random position to reduce seam lines. Is that even possible? That is a huge let down for me.

It's called "Z Seam Alignment". Not sure if it was already in 2.1, but it's definitely in 2.3 (which will be released in two days)

We did a boo-boo in our buildscript there. It says something like 2.1.99, but it should be 2.3.0-beta.

The 2.3.0 will be released today (pending the release of the UM3)

Real excited about the new version!

Re: Cura print settings

The MK2 handbook section 7.2.5 (Dated 8 Aug.) shows layer heights at .1 mm for detail, .20 mm for normal and .35 mm for fast. The settings in Cura are .06, .1, and .15 respectively.

I understand it is easy to change it, but the settings in the book are assuming that I am using slic3r so before I changed anything, I wanted to check to see that this was not a difference that is wanted by Cura. Obviously this makes quite a difference in build time.

I'm no expert but I believe the following is how it works:

Slic3r 0.05 detail = Cura 0.06 High quality
Slic3r 0.1 detail = Cura 0.1 normal quality
Slic3r 0.2 normal = Cura 0.15 low quality
Slic3r 0.35 fast = no Cura counterpart

You can create a custom profile in Cura and change the settings to reflect Slic3r's. I bet you'd need some trial and error though to find a satisfactory result.

Re: Cura print settings

The settings in https://github.com/Apsu/cura-i3-mk2/tree/master/quality are good.
...but I cannot find a way of importing these quality profiles in Cura 2.3.1.
Does anyone succeeded in this?

Re: Cura print settings

I installed Ultimaker Cura 2.3.1 but I don't have any materials listed when I choose Prusa i3 Mk2 as machine, but if I switch to Ultimaker machine I see list of materials.

I tried exporting material profile on WIndows and loading them on my Linux machine, but it is the same issue.

When I openned xml file with text editor I saw that material has list of machines it can be printed on, and of course, Prusa i3 Mk2 is not listed there.

I tried editing over of Ultimaker machines and putting Prusa i3 Mk2 istead but that for some strange reason also didn't work.

Can anyone please share his list of materials from Cura 2.3 so I can import them?

Also it would be great if there material profile files would be listed as optional download on Prusa support download page.

download the materials from here https://github.com/Ultimaker/fdm_materials and copy them to cura install directory, in my case /usr/share/cura/resources/materials

But please open any of these materials in text editor, or take a look directly online:
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Ultimaker/fdm_materials/master/generic_pla.xml.fdm_material

Do you see only Ultimaker machines listed inside?

On Linux Cura 2.3.1 version shows only materials for machines that are listed inside... Which version of Cura are you using?
