LCD knob not working

Just finished building my kit ... and seems to be a fail.

The knob on the LCD does not work so I can't even do a self test. It doesn't seem to recognize the SD card either. Using Pronterface via USB I can move all three axis (haven't tried much more since I worry about making things worse), so I don't think it's totally screwed up...

I sent an email to support, in the mean time, any suggestions? (I checked the LCD cables three times, and I assume I would not be able to see anything on the display if the cables were plugged in incorrectly...)

not necessarily, you only need one cable for the display to do it's job.

"reading" your fault description, one of the two ribbon cables is either defective or wrong connected.
as far as i can rememeber from the lcd 2004 schematics, connector #1 is for the display itself, the beeper and the pushbutton of the knob, while connector #2 is for the sd-card interface, the reset button and the rotary encoder of the knob.

💡
so check the orientation of the "//" cable at the rambo. might be in the wrong direction, or not properly assembled.

tip: let someone else of your family check the cable orientation of the second ribbon cable. it's most likely that you'll oversee a mismatch a 4th time.

dem inscheniör is' nix zu schwör...

Also make sure the board isn't pinched or someway binding. Mine was slightly crooked and it pressed the knob switch making it seem unusable.

So, to test if one of the cables was bad I decided to try to swap them.

And I'll be damned, now everything seems to work (self test passed), so obviously I managed to insert that connector incorrectly three times in a row...

Thank you for the help!
