Extruder troubles

I was having problems getting first layer adhesion on my MK2.5S and started to check things to find out what was going wrong. I had a heatbed failure on the front half of the heatbed so I swapped it out with a new one but that didn't seem to fix the problem

When I go to the settings and pick move axis and then extruder the extruder will extrude the filament(PLA) just fine but when a choose first layer calibration to set the Z axis it doesn't want to extrude any filament, it will start to extrude about 12mm of filament and then just stop extruding.

I replaced the Heatbed as mentioned before and also changed my nozzle to a .4 Micro Swiss nozzle.

Anyone have a suggestion of what to look at next?

Thanks for any help.

RE: Extruder troubles

A couple of things, how long have you been printing?  First layer issues are the most common problems new printers experience.  Did you build the printer or did you buy it fully assembled from Prusa?  Did the printer pass the calibration checks? Are you using the calibration in the firmware or something else?

You say you're printing with PLA, while a heated bed is nice for PLA it isn't strictly necessary so a heatbed failure, while something you want to fix, isn't necessarily a problem for PLA.  You replaced the nozzle, was it just the nozzle or the entire hot end?  What procedure did you use to replace the nozzle?

Cheers
