Layer shift on Y-axis - only cured by "hi power"

Hi there,

after my recent upgrade from MK2S to MK2.5 I experienced layer shift issues on the Y-axis. I was printing a hollow pyramid (for calibration purposes, found on thingiverse under https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:8757 ) and it started showing layer shifts between a print height of 1mm and 2mm. I adjusted the power settings to "hi power" and it worked fine, yet that shouldn't be the final solution - and back on MK2S the "auto power" option worked fine.

Funny detail, after the successful print I had to verify and fix my X-axis (unrelated issue) and I reran the print with the "auto power" setting. The layer shifts occurred again, looking pretty similar in height and shift to my first attempt.

Does this ring a bell? If only the "hi power" setting solves this, could the tension on the Y-axis be too high? For the records the selftest showed OK on all three axis.

I am having this same problem now. I have been having random layer skips for the last 6 months. I can repeatedly do it on the exact same print every single time. Its like they set the accelleration settings too high for the mk2.5 profile. This happens on both the 0.15 optimal and 100m/s linear advanced mk2.5s profiles. It is happening in the y axis in my case. I have checked belt tension and also the bearings and they are smooth as butter. I may swap out the motor to see if its hit the end of its life or something.

This print is subject to shifting.  It has solid infill on top of sparse vertical infill.  The solid infill curls and catches the nozzle as it passes over the edges where curling is bad.

Turning off the print fan helps, some. Slowing down solid infill printing helps, some.  Together, and with some minor hand holding, I finished the second print attempt.  It probably would have finished without me, but I did adjust some of the larger curls down using a spudger.
