Extrusion Issues?

Hi,

Upgraded my MK2S to the MK2.5 recently :). But still no good prints :(. When I print both PETG and PLA, I seem to be getting "skipping" in the extrusion.

The problem manifests itself on the first layer (including the first layer calibration tool) by a series of lines followed by "blobs", aka ___*___*___ etc.

When i have had this problem on other printers, it usually meant either:
1. There was some sort of "jab" in the extrusion head, which was causing things to "slow down"
-> A subset could be not flush extrusion parts
2. Not enough current going to the extrusion motor.

Has anyone else had this problem? I had just printed successfully half the upgrade parts (I made a mistake and didn't print the rambo thinking I could do it later... :().

Separately, beyond rebuilding the extruder/doing maintenance, any other suggestions of things to try?

Please give us an image.

Maybe your live Z is not optimal. Please doublecheck.

Re: Extrusion Issues?

I do have a similar issue. I'm loosing steps. This issue can be very nicely seen if you install one of those: https://www.prusaprinters.org/visualize-extruder-motor-movements/

When there is a "backslash" with a very characteristic sound.

Re: Extrusion Issues?

I had some underextrusion problems (skipping extruder) in the recent past and they were related to the extruder springs being too tight. Currently the screws stand about 1mm out from the extruder case.

Another thing was that with PETG I had to calibrate the z offset very precisely to have a perfect first layer. 5-10 microns do make a difference in my case. PLA seems more forgiving.
