@tim-2

I do not care about delays or even paying up front.  I would prefer a viable company that gets it right.  If I have to pay up front and wait, I will take that requirement.

[...] On the Mini - is was pretty obvious they weren't manufacturing yet still collecting money and making promises they couldn't keep. I haven't followed it, but have they ever caught up?

Looks like the current lead time for a preassembled Mini is 2-3 weeks, so back to "just in time" production levels. Considering what went on last year, I'm not going to ding them too badly. I can put a lot more down on big-ticket items and wait just as long. At least I get the assurance of knowing I'm in the queue.

@ict-avatar

I currently have a Prusa mini and have recently build myself a Voron Switchwire and building a second. I'm debating building either a Voron 2.4 or a RatRig V-Core 3.  I can't make my mind up if I like the flying gantry of the Voron and the stationary bed or the 3 point self leveling bed of the RatRig.  Both cost a similar amount.  Klipper as firmware is really good too.  I'd be interested to know if you purchase the RatRig...😃😃

Definitely, Rat Rig over Voron for me
EU - sending; Rat Rig as comapany trusted
I've already worked with them on CNC kits,
Good quality and excellent support
I had to replace one mechanical part and the matter was resolved within 24h
And as for the printer, there is a community that has definitely grown a lot as well
supports Vcore 3 and is constantly updating it, there are a lot of new videos and instructions
This is my opinion and I am not saying which is better
than it meets my needs and distribution channels and support
I'm ordering soon I just have to check if the 500x500 model goes through my door and that doesn't mean if Prusa throws out a new model that I won't buy

Does anyone know what the travel and print speeds are to the RatRigs?

I have Prusa Mini and Voron 2.4. I love them both for different reasons. However, the XL seems to be the best of both worlds. Although, I'm not sure the XL has the speed of the Voron or the ability to enclose, the segmented heat bed is a great idea for fast smaller prints.

Can I remind people who are moaning about having to pay now for an XL that won't arrive for several months that you only have to pay a deposit now, the balance is payable when your printer is ready to dispatch!

Pre-order information: Original Prusa XL shipping is scheduled for Q2-Q3 2022. Reserve your place in line by paying the refundable deposit. Once your order is about to be shipped, you will receive a notification with the option to edit your order - select a specific XL version, add accessories, add-ons, filaments, etc. The deposit will be deducted from the total price.

RE:

I think I will wait for details on print speed to decide. I ordered a Prusa XL right away, because I think Prusa's support and quality of parts is great. A big part for me is also the SW support. Prusa Slicer just works and is updated frequently with really cool features. For the other machines, I did not dig too deep, but it seems to be a lot more involvement to get everything running.
I don't need a machine with 600mm/s, just to know I have a lot of manual work and SW thinkering to do on my side. However, I highly expect the Prusa XL to be faster than the MK3S (the speed settings in prusa slicer are also set a bit too low for my taste, I am reaching about 85mm/s on PLA with no real impact on quality apart from cooling power of the fan on certain part geometries) by a good margin.
Not sure what is an achivable speed value (talking about perimeter speed) ?! Perhaps 150mm/s? Or even 200mm/s? If the speed on the Prusa is not that great (comparable to other machines at the time of the Prusa XL release), I could also think of getting another printer...

From the official blog:

There’s another important aspect to consider with massive objects: the larger the print is, the longer it takes to finish. We’re still tweaking firmware and print settings to tell you the max speed, but you can be sure that thanks to the small and lightweight direct-drive extruder the XL can be very fast. Just an upfront note: we are aiming for print quality, not looking to join the SpeedBoatRace.

I read that, but thanks for pointing it out. Really depends what fast for them is 🙂

Well I just read a bit about klipper (never heard of that before as I was not informing myself for the last year): Impressive stuff. I really hope that Prusa can do input shaping (and perhaps pressure controlling) on their own, too. That seems so be a dealbreaker to get higher printing speeds with still good quality.
Also, an additional tool could be an accelerometer that can be attached on their toolhead changer  interface for the needed testprints =)

RE:

Prusa has linear advance which is an alternative to pressure advance, isn't it? For input shaping you need klipper though as far as I know. Input shaping is really cool. My Voron 0.1 is basically ghosting free even at higher speeds. But if I understood it right, Prusa might work on an optional klipper mod or upgrade for the XL.

PS: If you have an accelerometer you don't even need test prints. You just run the test program with the accelerometer, analyze the results and just set the values in the config file. Of course, one can then verify and fine tune the input shaping with test prints but I personally did not find that necessary.

That is not why I need test prints.  I usually need test print to confirm shrinkage of the print.  It is so variable depending on infill and size.

Please share your opinion

Why not both?

I'm building a Triet now and deposited on the XL

Building a Voron 2.4 is quite a project. I finished my 300mm one a few months ago, but I've still pre-ordered an XL. Different beast even though both are core-XY. Price wise the Voron cost me around £2k but I went with the best rails, cabling, Igus chains etc. Hope the XL lives up to that quality.
