RE: Original Prusa XL is out!

I did jump on the mmu2s bandwagon, and it mostly works at this point but I will happily chuck it and convert that printer back to a standard MK3s+ when the 5 extruder xl arrives lol.  That will bring my prusa printer total to 3 lol

@walter-witt

"Do you think the XL will be a good candidate for this kind of printing?"

If the heating bed can handle temperatures about 140-150 degrees C. and the nozzle about 400 degrees C., you can certainly print PEEK with the XL. Due to the high heat, the surrounding extruder parts should be made of metal or a more heat-resistant plastic (PC, nylon, PEEK).

I did not print large parts because, as I said, the material is very expensive and only bought a 250 gram roll for testing purposes.

wbr,

Karl

That is why i just sold my second MMU on eBay.  The best part is it sold for $50 more than I paid for it.

RE: New PrusaPrinters - The best 3D model database and community!

Son of a gun.... New Prusa XL model coming out. You are killing me.... hahah. Ive spent the last year collecting a few MK3s+ MMU2S and mini and then I see the latest XL add. Now what am I supposed to do? I'll tell you what -I'm definitely on board with getting that XL with 5 tool heads. As soon as my latest filement and resin order are delivered I am ording it. This looks amazing: https://www.prusa3d.com/product/original-prusa-xl-2/   Prusa is ahead of the game.

50$ for the trouble with the MMU is a good reward 👍

I hope the toolchange system on the XL works better and more reliably. I will definitely not buy a V1.0 variant and prefer to wait still some time.

RE: Original Prusa XL is out!

I've blown more than $50 in failed prints on the MMU,  not to mention the frustration lol.  But since I have it mostly working I'll use it until the XL arrives.   Then, I'll likely chuck the mmu and convert that printer back to a standard MK3S+.    I'd love to see an MK4 come out so I can upgrade the two MK3S+'s I have.

I’ve got a few more mods to try on the MMU before I totally give up on it. What I might end up doing is keeping the MMU attached but using it really just to select a single filament per print. That way I’m not swiping in an out filaments like I am on my minis. Plus setting up a dropbox system .

I was going to look at the tzb mods.  They've got new printer firmware, mmu firmware and some modified extruder parts.  They even claim it will make the mmu work with tpu.  I'm kind of skeptical honestly given how the mmu is built, but if you're looking to stay with the mmu, that might be worthwhile to look at.

Prusa you are amazing !
I just want to look for a new home near you and apply 🙂

They are hundred of companies who manufacture 3D Printer but you are just amazing.
I have think to 2/3 improvements with my mk2s but your XL model include all but add even more !

Congratulations Prusa and continue to improve 3D printing world with your amazing team.
Just one advice for your promotional movie and pictures. Please use a thermal camera and use this movie/picture for show the thermal improvement during  heatbed preaheating 😉 (Before and after)

Thank you Prusa !

Yessir.

It goes along with the updated firmware too.  Had I not gotten my mmu to work I was about to go that route.

RE: Original Prusa XL is out!

Are there any 3D printer tool changers near the price of the XL? I know about the E3D, but that seems to be more for the tinkerers and not a finished commercial product. Also, I suspect the i3 Mk3 replacement will look a lot like the AFS printers in Dubai and will also be upgradeable to a tool changer. Likely 3 heads because of the size.

I hope you are right on MK3S, but I have not seen any indication that they are going down that route.

There are no changers for this price.

RE: Original Prusa XL is out!

The printer dimensions are 80x80 cm according to the product page. That includes spool holders on the sides, which explains the width, but how can it be 80 cm deep? It really doesn't look like it's that deep from the pictures. It's a true beast of a printer. Will not be easy to find a place for it.

RE: Original Prusa XL is out!

Chuck, this is what has me thinking tool changers will eventually be available on the Mk3 replacement. This is from “The Future of Manufacturing…” blog on the AFS printers — “The farm in Dubai consists of 34 new CoreXY Original Prusa 3D printers. And while these are not the expected “Prusa XL” printers exactly (they are smaller and there are no tool-changing options yet), they share certain features and technologies.”

I may be overly optimistic but saying “yet” concerning the AFS printers indicates to me that if the Mk3 replacement is a corexy then the work will have already been done to add tool changing so the only real issue would be parts availability.

I understand.  While that might happen, it is not what they said in Dubai.  that is a 4th printer.

If there is any doubt, you should, but you will be surprised how quickly you grow into it.

RE: Original Prusa XL is out!

In the last live. This dimension 80x80  is given as the dimension to use and handle the machine.

80x80 is not dimension on prusa XL.
