Visible Infill (on purpose)

Hey all,

Im VERY new to 3d printing so please bear with me. This is surely somewhere but i cant seem to find it (or how to adequately search it) BUT i’m looking for a way to print a model with specific areas without the outer shell, thus showing the infill pattern.

Some months ago i wanted to use a gyroid pattern in a tube to slightly restrict water flow. Since i couldn't figure out the way to keep both ends open i sanded them off.

Theres surely a way to specify an area or surface whether in prusaslicer or in fusion (or whichever 3d software) that can leave the infill open and visible.

You can use a modifier to remove the top layers. See https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/30073-infill-swatches as an example of how it's done.

Try printing with zero perimeters and zero top and bottom layers. You probably need to set advanced or expert mode to see these options but I’m not sure.

@john-13

Wouldn't that eliminate the layers completely?

Now that you mention it, maybe an object modifier can allow me to set specific layer heights on some areas

@gordon-w

exactly. Thanks!

Used that same file to try out modifying the size of the modifier and am able to tweak what surfaces can be removed.

Thank you both @gordon-w and @john-13
