totally disappointed

After waiting 9 weeks for my Mini plus to be delivered it arrived on Tuesday of last week. I was really looking forward to the arrival and making some great prints. I previously had an ender 3 Pro and it was nothing but trouble with a continuous cycle of maintenance I spent as much time fixing it as printing. After seeing all the reviews of the Prusa printers  I decided to purchase a Mini+.

I received the printer on Tuesday and put it together on Wednesday. After completing the build I proceed to do the first layer setup. for a printer with auto bed leveling this was quite the process. I finally settled with a -1950 setting which seemed quite high not sure if this is normal. Then I proceeded to do a couple of the prints on the supplied usb stick which came out quite well. That's where it all started  going down hill. I started having trouble with prints sticking to the bed. after cleaning the bed i tried again and the filament started skipping and had the nozzle clog up. The printer would not unload the filament. I managed to get the filament out by hand and clean the nozzle with the needle. When I went back to print the another test print the usb stick was dead and nothing shows on my printer or computer.

I sent an email to support to  express my frustration and received an email back on Friday with instructions on how to adjust the tension on the extruder motor and to do a full nozzle clean. after following the instructions I was able to clean the the nozzle and  clean the extruder gears.

Thinking the worst was behind me I reconnected the power and turned the machine on only to be greeted with a grey screen and i can't see anything on the display which renders the machine useless.

After waiting all this time to receive a piece of crap. It is obvious that quality control at prusa is not keeping up with the deamnd for new printers.

I just want a refund and you have your printer picked up.

RE: totally disappointed

I'm going to third what the other two have said.  Prusa are responsive.

Having said that I'd suggest you become less reactive.  3d printing isn't a hobby for the easily frustrated.  I own 3 3D printers, a Prusa I3 Mk2.5S, a Prusa Mini, and an Ender 3.  A couple of friends of mine own Ender 3 Pros, so I'm pretty confident they're pretty good printers, not quite in the class of the Prusa I3 but still very capable printers.

I've been 3D printing for 4 years and can say with certainty that failed prints are part of the learning curve.  Print adhesion is without question the most finicky part of printing.  I don't recall if the Mini came with glue stick, but I know my I3 did and proper use of glue stick on the bed can make a huge difference.  Brand new PEI is very slick, a thin layer of glue can make the difference between a successful print and a failure.  Too much glue is worse than too little.  Angus from Maker's Muse has an entire episode to bed prep, it's worth a watch.

It's up to you where you go from here but if you decide to give up on your Prusa don't expect to find anything that will be easier to print with.  I've had issues with all my printers.  I've gotten fantastic prints from them also.  Mostly I find when things really go off in the weeds it has more to do with my choice of filament or my understanding of 3D printing than the devices themselves.

@shyguy5757

I understand your frustration, I had an Ender 3 Pro as well and went through the same, until I gave up with the thing and sold it (but mainly due to a poor design and cheap components), I am currently waiting on a MK3S+ to be shipped.   3D printers are finicky beasts at times, it is a steep learning curve, and can be frustrating but Prusa are the best you will get without spending really silly money.

Not sure if you are aware but the chat on the Eshop page is actually 24/7 tech support from Prusa, they will answer in about 5 mins?

It really is the best support money can buy.

Tank you very much!

Isn’t that the truth.  I have an ender that I have put $600 in it to get it to be Prusa-like.  They are terrible to learn on.  Then again, they taught me a true respect for my Prusa, Anycubics, and BIQU.

@cwbullet

I did look at the BIQU, they looked good for the money.

I spent around £300 on the Ender trying to improve on it, thankfully most of the parts I purchased were unused and brand new when it went belly up so I returned them to Amazon, but still lost around £80 when I sold it at a few months in for spares and repairs,  it was a valuable learning experience though, learned marlin firmware and quite a few other areas that I would not have learned by simply running it.

The HUGE difference is in support, that's why I did not grudge a penny of the £700 for the MK3.  you know if it goes wrong, you have the backup to fix it 24/7, no time delay, no language barrier.

But TBH I am a glutton for punishment, and love a challenge (Hence the fascination in 3D printing...lol) I bought a Tronxy Core XY printer last week and built it over the weekend, but it also has a LOT of design issues and flaws, going to use that to learn with and let the MK3S just run.

Always think it is better to learn by getting in at the deep end, head first, if my engineering background has taught me anything is that you only learn by your mistakes.

I hope it works out.  I sympathize.  I also chucked my Ender-3 out a window.

I very nearly put a hammer through my one, but decided to sell it instead, actually was nearly brand new so sold for spares or repair.

Was very frustrating, I don't like getting beat by inanimate objects!!
