Jamming and extrusion issues.

Hey there.

Just only got into the world of 3D printing last month and have been doing a fair bit of experimenting with the printer.

A buddy and I were collaborating on some parts designs and had an issue with a slicer file he had sent my way. It was set to his printer (MK4) and wasn't changed over when I plugged it into my Mini to print. Long story short, the nozzle ended up digging into the printing plate and created a bunch of issues for my printer. I had stepped away from the print for a moment to find it had been scraping the surface for around ten seconds or so. The plate was lightly gouged.

Few things that happened was that the extruder assembly ground down the filament to a sliver, melted filament squished up in between the hotend and the PETG tube that plugs into that assembly and I've been having nothing but issues with the printer since. I changed out the old PETG tube with the spare, cleaned up the machine and calibrated it and had a relatively decent print for about 20 minutes. Up until the printer began to jam up in a similar fashion as before. That void would be filled up between the tube and hotend and required a cold pull to clear it. I've also noticed flat surfaces on the print have come out a little rough, as well as signs of a bit of overextrusion whenever the nozzle starts and finishes extruding. This is before the last jam at least.

I've been experimenting with the tension screw in the extruder with little luck, just keep hitting the same jam i've had a number of times before, and I'm not sure what else I should be checking to make sure this thing prints cleanly again.

Any help would be very appreciated.

Thanks.

RE: Jamming and extrusion issues.

Maybe you could start by telling people whether it was working ok beforehand. Also have you checked if none of the bed surface has collected in the hole of the nozzle. If the filament can’t get through then the tension will not help. Try maxing the nozzle temperature out to see if filament starts to exit then as a start I think you need to do a cold pull and clean out the nozzle. Search for cold pull and you will find useful info.
