Filament selection
Hi,

I'm a complete novice in 3D printing.

Recently I bought a Prusa Mini, which after only 30 mins assembly and 2.5 hrs printing produced it's first 3Dbenchy off the included USB stick.
I used the PLA that came in the box.

I see that I can select filament types on the printer as well as in the Prusa slicer.

When and where do I select my filament? Do I need to select in everywhere (on the printer and in the slicer)?
Or just in the slicer when I convert my model into Gcode?

I managed to get OctoPrint to talk to my Mini using the micro USB port under the power switch.
When I connect to OctoPrint, I can no longer operate the full menu system of the printer.
I.e. I can't select a filament type, it says PLA but I want to print ABS or PETG

So is it enough to tell the slicer what filament to use, or do I need to set the printer
to the correct filament as well?

Kind rgards,
Marout

RE: Filament selection

I specify the filament type in two places. First in Prusaslicer. Second when using the mini console to load filament you will see a choice of materials and you pick one to initiate the filament load.

@3dk

OK I did that too. It does however require to break the connection between OctoPrint and MINI.

But that is relatively easy to reconnect.

However the settings in the printer are different to the filament I'm using. How do I adjust that?

Or does the slicer make the printer use the right settings?

@hainjedaf

The slicer will tell Octoprint to use the right settings through the GCODE.
