Extruder losing steps?

I have been hearing noises coming from the extruder during a print. It doesn't sound like the clicking or grinding noise that I would usually think of from the extruder, but I think it sounds more like the Extruder is losing steps. I thought this could be because it is getting hard to push the filament through the nozzle, so I cleaned the nozzle and it still happens. During prints when I hear it I increase the temps or slow down the speed or reduce flow factor to try to limit the stress on the extruder but that doesn't work completely.

My last thought is the extruder tension. When I checked online, it suggests that the bolt should be flush with the plastic part (mine was nowhere near), but when I tried unscrewing it to be flush, it would just freespin and I am afraid it is longer gripping the filament properly.

Has anyone heard of this issue happening to them and have a suggestion on what to look at next. Would the extruder tension cause difficulty pushing the filament through the nozzle.

I managed to get a video with the sound. It happens a few times in the video starting at 0:04s in.

Has anyone heard this noise before?

RE: Extruder losing steps?

It sounds like the extruder looses steps, yes. I didn't hear that on mein Mini so far, but on my Wanhao Duplicator i3+.

Thanks to the Mini's hotend problems I had serious grinding issues with the extruder, varying with the tension. But i never heard it lossing steps, it always ground into the filament, before it could loose steps. Solution: I don't really know, bu I think if you can't or don't want to got hotter, than you have to go slower.
