Accidentally changed filament without a build plate.

Hello,

as per title, I forgot to put the build plate back and changed the filament without the built plate, letting it purge the filament directly onto the heat bed. Do I need to do any cleaning of the heat bed, besides physically removing the filament, before the next print?

Is it save to clean the heat bed, not the removable plates, with soap+water or ISO alc?

Kind regards

Careful use of IPA is probably best,

I would make sure you get all traces of plastic off the build plate before use. If you put that steel build plate down and there is some plastic residue left over on the heated bed, there is a good chance of the plastic bonding to both the steel sheet and print bed during a print and if the steel sheet is then removed, it might possibly pull up some of the black solder mask on the heated bed, or worse case pull up both the soldermask and the traces that make up the actual heater.

Probably not.  The temperatures are too low.  The worst-case scenario is that it later your z height of the plate and your nozzle will crash into the plate, but most likely, you will get a forced Z remeasurement.

Follow Joan's advice and you will be fine.

I am unsure what solvents you can successfully use to clean off any plastic residue without doing damage to either the white silk screening or the solder mask. I know short exposure to 99% IPA seems to be ok. I've sprayed mine down with the same spray bottle of 99% IPA that i use for cleaning the steel sheet and wiped it down with no ill effects. Harsher solvents will likely dissolve both the silk screening and or solder mask. Safest bet might be heating the heat bed up as hot as it goes then use something like a terry cloth towel to rub at it and just use the heat and friction from the towel to try and remove as much as possible.

As Joan said, IPA is best.  It will not harm and is less likely to cause rust as long as the % is at least 91%.

Cleaning with IPA wont do any harm. But I don't think that you really need to clean it. That small amount of plastic at that temperature wont do any harm on the actual bed.

@3dprintedgr

Probably correct.  I do clean my bed but it mostly to remove any rust or dust.

Good to know.

Ended up wiping the heat bed with a sponge soaked in 99% alc and it seems to be clear of any residue now without leaving any visual damage.

Thank you for those suggestions

@teachtheprints

Good to hear.  I would dedicate a sponge for your printer surfaces.
