.stl extensions

Hi everyone, I recently downloaded prusaslicer 2.0.9.x on my win.10 computer and I am having difficulty associating the prusaslicer program to the .stl extension. When I went in to associate the extension to prusaslicer I had 4 .stl extension in the list and all of them had number added to then example ( .stl.4.5? )Anyone experienced this? Any help would be appreciated.

RE: .stl extensions

I'm afraid I'm not familiar with a Prusa Slicer with that version number.  The current full release is 2.2.0 and the alpha releases are at version 2.3.0-Alpha 3.

Where exactly are you getting such an old version from ?  In fact even on Github Prusa Slicer jumps from 2.0.0 to 2.1.0-Alpha 1

I'm so sorry for the confusion on my part the version I am running is 2.2.0+64. I uninstalled Prusaslicer 2.2.0+win64 and reinstalled it and the file association worked properly.

I have alpha3 downloaded and installed on my c drive but my windows10 does not recognize the github publisher. I am cautious about installing any program when windows does not recognize the publisher.

RE: .stl extensions

Sorry i use windows 10 too but I’m not aware of any installer for the 2.3.0 alpha versions. Normally it’s download and unzip the archive to a folder on the pc and then just double click the Prusa slicer exe and it starts. No need to install anything and my windows installation has never thrown any messages up regarding that.
I’m actually running PS 2.2.0, PS 2.3.0-a3, Super slicer 2.2.53 and Super Slicer 2.3.55 pre release and can run all 4 at the same time without issues or any warnings so it must be some setting you have on your windows install that is flagging up anything.

That is generally a prudent attitude, but if you have a high degree of confidence in the source, there's not as much risk as if it's simply some random software you downloaded from an unknown site. You have to decide what you're comfortable with.

ok, I can run

ok, I can run Prusaslicer alph3 from the C: drive by clicking on (prusa-slicer.exe). I cannot get a file with a .stl extension the load into the prusa alpha3. When I push a file with a .stl extension it loads it to prusaslicer 2.2.0+win64. Do I need to delete this version 2.2.0?

RE: .stl extensions

.stl files can only have one default program.  that is the program that will open them, if you push them.

if you open Alpha3, you can add stl's to the build plate manually.

RE: .stl extensions

Alternately on windows you can right click on any stl and change the default program, when it brings up the list of available programs you can choose custom and navigate to the location of the Prusa slicer alpha exe. Once you do that all stl files will open with the alpha.

Personally though I wouldn’t do that as when the proper 2.3 is released it will be trying to use the alpha for opening them. Just do as Joan suggests and open the software first and then load whatever stl file you want.

RE: .stl extensions

I uninstalled the earlier versions of Prusaslicer software. The only version i have on my c:drive is alpha3. I opened my download folder i  unzipped a  print job and opened a .stl file windows gave me the option to open it in a couple of associated programs including Prusa, I chose prusa and the .stl was pushed to prusaslicer. I done that procedure a couple of times, I then went into windows default association files, I scrolled to .stl and I could choose to associate prusa to the .stl, its working as it should. When i push a .stl file it opens it in prusaslicer.

Thank you all for the help
