Will 3dsets models fit on a Mini

Not a sales pitch! This is an honest question. Has anyone tried printing a model from 3dsets.com on their Mini? The site says your printer must be 200 x 200 x 180 mm which the Mini isn't. But I looked at all the photos for the Rancher and I suspect the larger parts can be printed diagonally. I emailed the company and got no response - not a good sign.

It is a lot of work to check if every part fits in the building room of the MINI. I had a quick check of many parts of Body and Chassis and I would say it should work. But some parts will become very tricky to print - for example (Defender): Rear fender for print

For this part the MINI misses 0,5 mm in z direction. Maybe it is possible to find 1 or 2 mm in z direction. Needs some testing.

I would give it a try and if there is realy no way to print it on a MINI it is maybe possible to find someone near you who can help with a bigger building area.

Best regards, Clemens

If you don't mind making things smaller, you can always shrink things down in Prusa Slicer. Just use the same scale factor for everything and pieces should fit together. I also load things into CAD software and cut them into pieces that can be glued together. Sometimes that is a lot of work, but I'll usually make some modification, add a logo, whatever, while I'm doing it.

Regards,

Mark

@marklgoldberg

For these parts it would get very complicated, because the whole car is more than 250 printed parts and what makes it a lot mor difficult is, that there are ball bearings, servos, motors and so on which have to have perfect fit. So in that case using a scale factor I would say is no solution.

They have an FAQ : https://www.3dsets.com/faq/

Q: I have a printer with a print area of 150 x 150 x 150 mm. Can I distribute the parts into multiple prints and print the whole model this way?

A: Unfortunately, some parts are too large and require a bed size of 200 x 200 mm so they cannot be printed on smaller beds.

I guess they have a reason for saying that.

I hadn't considered Z. Good catch. These models are incredible. I'm bummed I can't print one.

Hello Tracy

I have a friend that is building the Rancher 4x4 with a Prusa Mini. There is only one part that he couldn't print directly and that was the Front Fender (I printed these parts for him).

Looking at the part, I reckon that you could section the part in two, print it separately and bolt it or glue it together. So I wouldn't think it's a show stopper.
