Very noisy MINI

Hello everyone,

I received my MINI + printers a few days ago, and I must say that I am quite surprised by the comments that I could read all over the place concerning the noise ... I find that the mine is VERY noisy compared to my MK3 ... even if it prints better ... 😉
There is the thump of printing (too loud) and a vibrating noise ... what do you think? (Google translation)

How to post a vidéo here? (ok i find...;-)

RE: Very noisy MINI

have tried placing the printer on a (concrete) floor? a lot of people have a paver (concrete tile) under the printer to 'dampen' the resonance from the motors.

Hello,
Thank you for this quick reaction ...
No I haven't tried it yet, but on the same work plane, my MK3 is silent .... Could this be from the Y axis motor? ...

try to isolate the sound to a specific motor direction (it could be that the tension of the belt is a bit on the high side) I can remember that in the first weeks I also found my noise level on the high side but after a while the sound level gets lower...

@oxygen

When you do figure it out, I'd love to know. I have a very similar noise. It's exacerbated by the tool holder I put on the top of the Z axis arm (which acts like a bit of a speaker).

I thought mine was very noisy until I realized it was the keyring on the usb fob, vibrating against the table. As soon as I isolated that, the printer was quiet.

Ok, I'm going to test a bluestone table, check the tension of the  Y axis belt and see if indeed it is not the ring of the USB key which vibrates in contact with the table ... Thanks you all......

RE: Very noisy MINI

My Mini was being rather noisy - grind/drone when printing certain movements, I think it was mainly Y axis movements around the middle of the rods.
I seem to have quietened the printer down vastly:
Removed the Y bearings, packed with some Lithium Grease I have, its thicker than the small tube that comes with the printer, a little stickier too (but still not exactly axle grease).
Careful reassembly to ensure bearings sit with the tracks at 45deg to vertical.
This smoothed things out a great deal.
Then, I did the concrete paver - cut a spare flagstone from the garden down to 30x25cm. Its approx 40mm thick.
Sat the flagstone paver on 10mm thick yoga mat cut down to 30x25cm.

Now the Mini is SO quiet! I still get a few grouchy sounds here and there but the only real noise is the hotend fan.
[Printing PETG at the moment, and that makes the most awful squeaky as it rubs inside the filament sensor - must be the PTFE tube or internal body rubbing the filament and squeaking! Going to swap out the short PTFE drom extruder to sensor one day to see if a different tube stops the squeak, I have a couple of reels to get through!]

I might repack the X axis someday too as that can be a little grindy. (I Expected the high quality bearings to be perfect, but they certainly have some noises!).
On inspecting the bearings, they may have had a tiny amount of grease from the factory but not much. I prefer to really pack them out, then run them up and down a load of times, remove them from the rod, then refit to allow excess grease to be displaced.
Loving the mini so far - a real upgrade from my 5 year old printer before!

Thank you very much for this long testimony ... I am not really "technical" and I will dissect all these explanations in peace ... Thank you again ...

RE: Very noisy MINI

Is that a cheap IKEA table? Those are like pure resonance-chambers. Basically they are hollow inside. Picks up every single noise of the printer and amplifies it. I had my printers on on one of those. Oh the noise!

Now my printers are on a solid wood shelf, on top of 1cm of foam padding, on top of concrete slab. Dead silent.

Try placing your printer on another worksurface, on the floor, or even try lifting it up off the table while its printing.
If that makes it silent, you should look into somewhere else to place your printer.

My printers: Mk3s / Mk3s clone with +upgrdaes (you know SPinda and all that good stuff) / Mini+ / Ender 3 v2
