RE: Unofficial Prusa Mini Wait Thread

I have the smooth sheet and haven't put anything on it.

I've been very careful not to touch the surface with my fingers so that I don't get any oil on the surface.

I've seen another post where someone said to be sure to wash the build plate with a little soap and water before use.

Now... back to the printing...

I have a friend who wanted a "Lucky Baby Groot" so it was the second thing I printed on my mini...

And then I started a stand for my Rocinante model.  I'll print the actual ship next.

Hopefully in my next update I'll figure out how to keep all my pictures from turning sideways...   😉

@frankincell... what filament did you print your Groot in?

i assume that it doesnt actually change colour and is just multi-colour on the reel... i like the look of it...

@jweaver You're correct it doesn't change color.

The "Lucky Baby Groot" is printed in this filament that I bought from Amazon.

The Base has completed!  This is printed in the crappiest cheapest filament ever created.

I bought it off eBay two years ago, it has inconsistent diameter, it's been out in my garage for years, it has absorbed a ton of moisture and will steam and pop when printed. It's brittle and constantly causes clogs in my other printers.

The Prusa Mini handled it better than any other printer.

Next up is the Nose portion of my Rocinante model. (I'll put it up on PrusaPrinters as soon as I'm sure everything prints properly.)

I'm printing this in SUNLU Silk Gold Copper PLA https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07V5TCZWV/

The little dots are supports...  look how tiny and perfect they are!

One of the ten supports didn't hold...  I'll re-print with a support box instead of a rod.

@steve-4  Thanks for the tip.   All my pics look right now.

I was about to ask if you are going to print the ship to go with that base but then I refreshed the page and saw your post 😛 Looks cool.

I feel like this is going to go like every pot luck I've ever been to- I get picked last, and there isn't even firsts at dessert to make up for it.

RE: Unofficial Prusa Mini Wait Thread

This is a bit off-topic. I was struggling getting PLA and even PETG to stick to the textured plate on the MINI. These are with Prusament filaments with default profiles. I tried lowering Z height, tried washing the plate with dishwashing soap and a blue sponge used for non-stick cookwear. Z height was so low that it was printing paper-thin lines and still it wasn't sticking. Also tried raising z height and that also did not work. I have a couple MK3S and regularly print with PETG on their textured plates without any issue at all.

It looks and feels like the textured plate that comes with the MINI is slicker with finer texture than the MK3S plates. As an experiment, I tried gently scrubbing the plate with a green 3M pad, which definitely does scratch. I tried this on only one side in case I messed up the plate. It has much less glossiness when it dried but no visible loss in texture. Tried printing PETG with normal z height and it sticks like a champ! Prints are solid and cannot be removed until the plate cools to around 50ºC, then the parts pop off.

I have not tried PLA since I scrubbed the plate. This is the pad I used to clean (along with hot water and dish soap):

3M Scotch-Brite Green Pads

I hope this helps.

jop. that seems to be the queuetime now. i ordered in the beginning of november and won't get mine till the end of march if everything goes right. Prusa seems to have landed a smash hit with that little fella.

You can do what I did. Buy any used printer to play with until the MINI comes. Then let go.

I have come here to chew bubblegum and perfect my MINI ... and I'm all out of bubblegum.

I alrady have Tronxy X1, with many upgrades and bugfixes, that made this 3d printer be a 3d printer! However lack of heated bed drives me crazy when I need to print PETG. I'm building custom CoreXY 300x300x400, but need small one as well. Here what mini is for 😉 Eventually iw ill get rid of Tronxy X1, it served quite well.

@arunas

Seems like a lot of folks fail to check the shipping times. Then again, who knows their accuracy.
