Problem with meeting demand is when you underestimate it... could have happened too. At least PR does not tend to resort to measures that reduce quality when in need to meet high amount of demand. Or, I hope so.

I was told they had at least 1000 units in stock back in Oct. Perhaps something had to change and they had to reorder a component.

People buying doesn't explain why they changed the information from "shipping at the end of November" to "starting production at the end of November". If they had 1000 units in stock, production would have been underway long before the end of November.

I seriously doubt any units were / are in stock. Makes no sense to start assembly until the beta test results are in and they only shipped to testers very recently.

@phr0ze

I heard the same about the stock on the chat. Nobody has started a new chat about this big delivery change? 😛

Some kind of post or more transparency would be welcome from PR.

I would agree that a blog post is needed.

I guess I shouldn't say units. They had all the components to make 1000 units. Even then, testing and assembly could continue even while in beta. I'm guessing the problem is the hot end. Thats a tricky part to design and any issue there would cause delays. Seems any time Prusa messes with a hot end, printers develop problems.

I  don't know if it's been addressed, but I wonder how many of these orders were for two units?  Maybe the spreadsheet should be updated to include a column for "quantity", instead of a comment.  I would guess more than half of the order were for two units.  Even if PR had parts for 1000 units ready, you can estimate that would only be able to fulfill 750 orders.  Then when you factor QC, that's even fewer orders ready to ship.  I was at ERRF on Day 1 and ordered two units a few hours after the announcement.

Many people are already putting QTY. Day one sold 1000 units. Since they had parts for 1000 in October and Day 1, 1000 units sold. They would be good to deliver day 1 orders on time. Now, this was October, one would think that would be enough time to order 10000 more supplies.

Latest view of the spreadsheet seems to support approx 15k units sold.

Not, everyone is indicating quantity in the comment.  Yes, the numbers in sequential order indicate 15,000 orders.  Assuming that all 15,000 orders are for Minis, which is unlikely.  Prusa also sells the MK3S, MMU2S, SL1, CW1, filament, parts and accessories.  Yes, Prusa can order 10,000 worth in parts, but if there is a Beta/QC issue, they would have to address the issue before it ships out.

Fresh from the chat:
We have a slight delay but will start shipping in the following weeks. We are already producing them, but needs some time to polish things out. We are working hard so it’s shipped as soon as possible. The first orders should still be shipped before the end of the year, but I’m currently not able to guarantee it. Thank you very much for your patience and understanding, we really appreciate it.

> So there is no guarantee that the first day orders will ship this year?
Unfortunately no guarantee but is is very likely it will.
We will inform our customers. It might still be shipped sooner but December is more realistic for the first orders. Majority later then in January and February.

Given that it’s not likely I’ll see my printer before March, is it worth picking up a cheap printer on Amazon to play around with in the interim? The mini was going to be my first printer.

Quick poll: How many posting in these threads have recently told anxious children that they have to calm down and wait for Christmas? 😀

Having been through this process with the Mk3, MMU2 and textured powder-coated sheets, I can sympathize. I found it was much better to just relax and see how things evolved rather than adding anxiety to my daily routine by checking status pages hourly and trying to divine the truth from fragmentary updates.

Unless you really need to have the printer by a certain date... just letting Prusa do their thing is probably about as productive as you can be. At least with Prusa, the results are usually worth waiting for. (Except the stupid textured sheet.)

@lori-brooks

I purchased the Prusa Mini as my first printer but really wanted to learn and understand how these printers work so I spend a hundred bucks and got a TronXY X1 from gearbest, not the best printer but definitely a fun little machine!  If you want something with a bigger bed and consistent prints I would say to skip the Ender 3 and go for the Anycubic I3 Mega or Mega S, or even the TEVO Tarantula.  I've just heard a lot off hassle stories with the Ender 3, and I know, the irony of me saying that while owning a TronXY X1 does not pass me by. 😀

Very well said.  We get at least one customer a week that throws a tantrum on the website.  Santa may not deliver the toy by Xmas.  Throwing a fit won't get it here sooner/
