Spool Holder

Does the mini come with anything meant to help with holding a spool of filament? Will people buying this as their first 3d printer need to make something to hold their spool? The MK series printers come with the pieces to hold a spool on the printer frame, but obviously that doesn't seem like a good solution here.

As far as I am aware, from another post I saw somewhere that I can't find now, the desktop spool holder you see in the videos (low profile thing with some bearings that the spool sits on top of) is what will ship with the MINI.

It's very briefly in the launch video:

Yes, basic holder that sits on a table will be included, at least according to reveal video and IIRC it had also been confirmed by somebody from company on this very forum.

Worst case you will hold filament by yourself while you print one of bajillion spool holder STLs from the internet 🙂

1 min 19secs into that video....

An adjustable width bearing based spool holder. Neat little design by the looks of it.

I like the design.  I have had issues with several of the ones I made hanging.

I got an email from Prusa Support a while back

"

Hi Travis,

Yes, it does come with a spool holder. Unlike on MK3S, the one for MINI is not attached to the frame. You can see it in this video here:

Please let me know if you have any more questions 🙂

Hope you have a great day!

Anyone know if there's an STL available for the MINI spool holder? Want one for use with my MK3S and LACK enclosure. It seems to have a neat adjustment system based on what I've seen in the MINI manual.

The spool holder is clearly shown in the assembly manual.

Yes, that's what I said.

Do you mean that I should just use that as a reference to design my own? I hoped that Prusa would have open sourced it already to save me the time!

(For what it's worth I have a similar one I found on Thingverse, but this one seems a little nicer and I haven't seen one exactly like it)

Looks like my question was indirectly answered over on the Wait Thread (via Twitter). Printed part STLs dropping later this week, hopefully that includes the spool holder:

There are about a hundred variations on this design over on thingiverse and have been for years.
