Speed in Tune settings vs. speed in Prusa Slicer

I was printing a tower and messing with the Tune settings to try and reduce stringing while it was printing, once I found a some settings that worked (while messing with the Speed and Nozzle Temp settings) I went back to Prusa Slicer and tried to adjust my profile to reflect what was working while tweaking in Tune.

The temp setting is a no-brainer but I can't seem to get my speed settings to work or I'm doing something wrong. If 80 was working good in Tune while printing what settings should I change? and by how much?

I've tried taking Perimeteres: and External Perimeters: speeds in Prusa Slicer down to 80% of their original speed but that didn't work, I also tried reducing all of the speeds on the speed screen by 80% and I'm still not getting the results that I was getting while tweaking the speed in Tune while I was printing.

Thanks,

Brian

RE: Speed in Tune settings vs. speed in Prusa Slicer

I believe that the "speed" setting in the Tune menu affects all speed globally, i.e. it works by reducing the base timer rate so all stepper movements (X,Y,Z,E) occur pro rata. It therefore affects print, travel, retraction, everything equally (it's a Marlin feature).

OTOH, I don't think there is such a global setting in Prusa Slicer. You would have to go through every applicable speed setting and reduce it. I am happy to be proved wrong on that, but that is my understanding. (There are some "global" speed limits, but the speed you have set are probably not near the limit).

Thanks Bob,

Seems silly that you have that control but no easy way to then change you're config settings accordingly.

RE: Speed in Tune settings vs. speed in Prusa Slicer

If you find "a sweet" spot using speed override on the printer this setting can be saved to the generated g-code.

This is an advanced setting and some knowledge of g-code is needed. The g-code for speed override is M220 and the override value is specified in percent, ex. for 80% override add this line:

M220 S80

If this value is set in the generated/start-up g-code, the printer will be set to 80% speed when printing the model. To reset, set value to 100.

It must be set in every g-code that need a speed override.

Have a look at my models on Printables.com 😉

@area51

Thanks, does it work across all of the speed settings?

Yes, this setting changes all speeds, including travel. M220 has the same effect as changing speed override on the printer.
