Has anyone received the Prusa Mini (kit version) yet and how was your experience putting it together?

my Prusa Mini+ (kit) is supposed to be shipped next week but there are still unanswered questions about it I'm really interested in.

  • What did the kit look like (pre-assembled or many small pieces)?

  • How long did it take?

  • Was the assembly difficult?

I'm really interested in those questions because there's not a single video about the (new) Prusa Mini or any unboxing on YouTube (and about the Prusa Mini in general there are only really few videos).

The kit+ is very well organized into bags.

The manual online is good. I did my build 1-2 hours per night for 5 evenings.

I read the entire chapter in the manual in advance, then each step in advance so i knew what goes together.

It was at time abit fiddly, but not difficult to build the machine. Take it slow, if something doesn't make sense when looking at the parts, read the chapter once more.

My hotend came pre-built, and i re-seated the grubscrews and heatbreak just to be safe.

I did not use the included extruder, but opted to get the bondtech extruder from the start. I also got their heatbreak, but i have not put it in the machine as i have not had any problems with the stock heatbreak.

So far i have put a roll filamatics PLA and another prusament PETG thru it and working on another roll of Clas Ohlson PETG (local store).

A few videos;

My kit is from april.

Prusa Mini+ kit. BondTech extruder. FW 5.1.2
Prusa MK3S+ kit. Stock. FW 3.11.0
Prusa MK3S+, used. Stock. FW 3.13.3

I just finished building by Mini+ yesterday and I had no issues. The assembly manual is terrific. I recommend taking your time and taking breaks by dividing the build over several days. You have to be careful when lubricating the bearings and inserting the rods, just take it slow and don't force the bearings on the rods, when aligned right they will slide together nicely. Be careful not to over torque fasteners. The electronic box, just like my MK3S , is tight so take your time arranging the cables until the cover comes together nicely. The preflight guidance is the best of any printer I've ever used.

I also just finished my Mini+ last Friday. Took me few days with only 1-2 hours a night. I've built MK3S twice.

It's not difficult if you follow exact step by step as instruction gives. Mini+ is bit more simpler than MK3S. Wsor8478's advice is great and correct way you can do when you assemble it.

Yep

my Prusa Mini+ (kit) is supposed to be shipped next week but there are still unanswered questions about it I'm really interested in.

I received a Prusa Mini+ kit several weeks ago.

What did the kit look like (pre-assembled or many small pieces)?

The kit was entirely in small boxes which contained baggys of screws and printed parts, along with a tube of rods and a box of motors. This was all very well packaged inside a larger box.

How long did it take?

About 6 hours I think, including takeaway diner. I had a missing part which Prusa rapidly RMA'd, so Im not completely sure on the timing.

Was the assembly difficult?

The assembly was easy, but there are the following suggestions I would recommend.

  • Freeze your PTFE tubes for easier fitment
  • Check EVERY part is in the bags before you begin assembly
  • Skim-read the instructions for each section BEFORE you start making anything.
  • Follow the online instructions and check user comments for when something seems awkward or requires excessive force.
  • Ration your bears following the guide
  • Be patient

I'm really interested in those questions because there's not a single video about the (new) Prusa Mini or any unboxing on YouTube (and about the Prusa Mini in general there are only really few videos).

The manual is so well written and detailed, I don't think you would gain anything from a video build apart from wasted hours that could be spent cadding up a few prints.

I would also recommend having your own high quality USB stick loaded with latest firmware and a pre-sliced benchy, because the one that came with the printer failed for me on the second print.
