Gifting my stepdad his first Mini+, I have a few purchasing questions.

I will be getting the mini+ with:

Both steel sheets: smooth pei + textured power coated upgrade ($30)

Filament sensor upgrade ($20)

Prusa PLA Galaxy black (24.99)

My questions are:

Do i need to buy filament AND resin? Should I get both?

What other necessary accessories will he need to start on day one?

Any suggestions for what needs to be included that isn't already covered here?

No, you only need filament! -resin is for different type of 3D printer.

Nothing else is actually "needed" to start printing. Btw. I also bough filament sensor and I simply don't use it. In my opinion, filament sensor is needed in case if there are multiple printers printing (print farm). But in case of only one printer, it's just a "nice to have" -other might disagree on that. Maybe your stepfather would be happier with additional another color of filament instead...

Of course, some tools will be needed over the time. But Prusa doesn't sell that, so you will need to look elsewhere when the time comes. Stuff that would be good to have from start on, is:
-IPA (over 90% Isopropyl alcohol) for cleaning print sheet,
-some tweezer ( prefer angled tweezer),
-a spare 0.4mm nozzle (for just in case),
-1m of PTFE tube (for just in case),
-small brass brush for cleaning around the print nozzle (should be reasonable soft)

..and that's it.

Is a nice gift, I must say 🙂

Heat gun

I would only add a heat gun or hair dryer for cleaning up minor stringing (which is common) on the finished prints to @BogdanH's list.

tweetzer & cutterknife

I would also recomment 1 tweezer and a cutterknife.

I hope you don't get stuck!
