Bed preheat when unloading filament?

Hello, I have been having a great time with my mini so far but am curious as to why the bed preheats when unloading and loading filament? Not really an issue to me, just curious if there's a reason behind it. E.g. coded to anticipate a print after changing filament.

I think it is just reusing of the preheat routine and it is faster to start a new print after filament change. Sometimes it is a plus to have the head bed warm up, other times it is waste.

Have a look at my models on Printables.com 😉

It does seem unnecessary.

What annoys me is that when you unload filament, it keeps the heaters running.

I prefer to allow the fans to stop before switching off. So have to remember to use the "Cooldown" to shut the heaters off.

Most important is to cool down hot end before turning off power - heat from hot end can otherwise spread to cold part and make damage.

As said before, the logic is that when you unload filament, you load other one and begin printing. Which is what I do most of the time, but on occasion I just need to unload filament I need to go to main menu and cool printer down. Is there any timer BTW, that if you don't load filament within some time, it will "assume" you are done and cools down automatically, instead of wasting energy? In case you get distracted and forget printer is heated up.

I have not noticed a timeout for the printer to automatically cool down after inactivity, but I have neither tested it and I usually only cool it down after changing filament when not printing. There is a bunch of built-in safety measures I have already noticed so I would not be surprised if there is a timeout before a cooldown.

There is a timer on hot end. I think it is 10min of non printing, then it turns the heater off and displays a message.

Heat bed can stay on for a long time - have not seen a timeout.

@area51

That makes sense, if printer pauses for any reason while you are away, prints won't release from the bed.
