RE: Announcing the Original Prusa MINI - a smart & compact 3D printing workhorse!

Package on my order is said to be 11 kg, I ordered 1 kg spool and both sheets, obviously mini package of gummy bears (that's like 30 grams maybe) is included. My guess is the power brick alone will be like 5 kg, remaining 3 will be printer itself 😀

Package dimensions and weight are listed on the product page, and weight only is usually listed in your order details next to the carrier you chose / tracking number. Pretty sure the printers are not shipping yet.

I think there will be some sort of USB stick (like the one for the SL1) and also some basic tools (plier, scraper and keys)

You think (or perhaps hope), but that doesn't have to be correct.

Given they don't even include such cheap accessoires like a filament sensor (and seriously, no way in hell does this simple thing cost anywhere near 20 bucks in production!) or the WiFi expansion board (little over 3€ on ebay, i.e. much lower production cost) with the Mini just to meet their target price point, I have serious doubts there will be an USB drive, and with this in mind, extra tools like pliers that aren't required for printer assembly do not exactly seem like a given either. But I don't know it, so I asked.

Apparently noone here has a definitive answer.

Will ask customer support. I want to add some stuff to my existing order so I'll be contacting them anyway. Posting the answer they give me.

I can see why they wouldn't ship everything with the printer, and left stuff as options when ordering: printer is aimed both at beginners and home users who will appreciate it - but also for entrepreneurs with print farms. They most probably won't need extra filament as they have their own supplies, won't need filament sensor if they are feeding it with 5 kg spools and prefer one less thing to break, and won't need Wifi because they will not connect it or connect it with Ethernet instead for better reliability.

Apparently noone here has a definitive answer.

But you have asked for it here, so why complaining?

I would be careful adding stuff to existing orders. The chance to get your shipment delayed because of that increases.

Also regarding filament sensor - I haven't seen whether this is something that is thrown into the box and end user installs it, or if it will be installed during assembly. It is quite possible when you order it with sensor, it will be installed, tested and calibrated on your unit by workers in factory. In that case you pay not only for sensor itself as hardware component, but also for additional work on your order.

Ok, This question has gone on too long.  Instead of complaining on the forum, I asked support the question.  Included with the mini is the printer, a sample or spool or filament, all of the tools to assemble, instructions, the print surfaces you ordered, and a sensor if chosen.  There maybe a snack and snippers but that is yet to be decided.

That is likely all you will receive.

@charles-h13

Maybe it's not finalized yet at Prusa factory (there are still 3-4 weeks till shipping starts) or support rep does not know. Thanks for asking BTW.

Answer from William from customer support (I started chat right after I last posted here, didn't see you guys also contacted them in parallel):

Allen key and some screws. Not sure about the haribos. It has not started shipping yet, so I can't say just yet

I know it is not as much assembly, so will come with an allen-wrench

Quote me there. Don't know about the haribos

Not sure about the USB as well, but comes with the SL1.

Me: Given that not even the filament sensor or a WiFi chip is included in the base price, I wasn't so sure that the Mini would also contain the same amount of extras as the MK3 did

Exactly

Will be made a proper announcement I think

So they don't have the exact package contents finalized yet. Would keep an eye on the product page and on the blog to look for changes/announcements.

Because I wanted to see if someone already had an official answer - I try to avoid wasting the time of customer support if I can find the correct answer elsewhere. Since noone had it, I went on and asked CS since there was no other way to get that answer.

I also specifically asked about possible changes to my position in the waiting list. He said adding stuff to my order won't change anything. I've done this twice now since I placed the original order - added one more Prusa Mini unit to the single one I initially ordered, and now some filament spools. Both times they told me it would not affect my queue position.

@julianr

Read my first response above.  Chat or support told me the same thing.  They are still deciding on Haribo and a USB drive.  I am sure it is going to come down to cost.

That's correct. You keep your queue position. Still your shipment might get delayed for example if this specific filament is not in stock and need to be produced first. And once it's delayed, someone will need to check from time to time if every part is available ...

Again, my statement is based on my experience with many companies understanding what's happening in the warehouse/shipping department.

Concur and confirmed from prior experience.

RE: Announcing the Original Prusa MINI - a smart & compact 3D printing workhorse!

Since it is impossible to add items to your cart in the shop that are NOT marked as "in stock" in a high enough quantity to cover the amount you want, I would assume Prusa's system is one that will reserve the ordered items for you immediately once paid. Hence, if it is in stock the day I order, it will be ready to ship when everything else is ready too.

Of course I don't know this for sure, but it seems natural given this observation.

This is not how WH management works 😉. If you preorder something, there is usually no physical basket in the WH with your order and all the available items inside. The purchased items currently in stock are also not being reserved for you. And whatever you see on the web page available is also not live data from the WH stock. There are valid reasons for that which would take pretty long to explain as this is a pretty complex topic.

Not so long ago (this year?) PR used excel sheets to handle orders. So if you imagine a full automated and system driven process, forget about it. It's more human driven than you think.

RE: Announcing the Original Prusa MINI - a smart & compact 3D printing workhorse!

As a newbie friendly printer, package will certainly have everything needed to put the printer together included. And do at least first layer calibration + maybe a small plaque/coin even if newbie forgets to order filament spool (hence the sample). I personally am OK if no USB stick is included (got full purse of those), but YMMW.

But if there won't be at least the miniature pack of gummy bears, or 3 separate pieces for each step, I worry there will be riots in the streets!
