What do I miss out not buying directly from Prusa??

Hello everyone, I recently have the potential opportunity to purchase a BNIB i3 MK3s(+? Not quite sure its the + or not. Pretty sure it is.) kit for a small discount of roughly 18% off. Both Build sheets and a Roll of Prusament PLA included. Sounds like it was supposed to be an X-Mas gift but the person decided they didn't have enough time to use it/set it up.

Anyways, before I pull the trigger on this hell of a deal, what am I missing out from not getting this printer directly from Prusa? Probably zero warranty support, and I know I won't get that 5% discount on filament. But at the same time I can get the printer relatively quickly only needing to drive an hour and a half one way to get it, and save a bit of money while at it since at the very least it's $25.00 less than what the kit costs with no extras. The way I see it, if I get a Prusa Mini+ with all the fixings, it's only $200.00 less than this MK3S+.

Thanks in Advance!

AFAIK you will not have access to the upgrades and spare parts sections of the shop.

@lichtjaeger

I had access to those parts of the shop even before I had an account...

Ok. Tested and confirmed. Seams like they changed their policy.

In the short term, you may save money and time. However, you must weigh the benefits of the momentary savings against the longer-term additional expenses yourself. According to my information, you get Prusa support and spare parts only for an original Prusa device or if you are registered there as a customer.

Thanks for the clarification on that. So seems like while I wouldn't be able to directly buy spares on the website I can possibly still obtain them through their service department.

I might just directly message their service department to see what they will tell me. Feels a bit funky to lock spare parts behind having to buy a printer directly through Prusa.

I'd ask if warranty and support are transferrable. As long as you have a genuine original Prusa, they may not be overly strict, or might at least let you have access to parts.

@bobstro

The hope is that at least if something in the kit is broken I can at least get a replacement part. Would be a real bummer if I couldn't otherwise.

I don't think there's any difficulty there. I also bought the original Prusa Mini used (defective) and reported this to Prusa and sent them a copy of the original invoice. With this I can buy spare parts without any problems.

Got a response back from Service today:

You can have access to the spare parts, just make sure that the printer has the silver sticker on the back of the printer frame, it has the serial number. When you get the printer, send us a picture of the sticker, and make an account in the e-shop so we can give you access to the spare parts.

Please note that when purchasing from a third part, you do not have the right to warranty replacements.
Which is great to hear. I think I'll be building a MK3S+ Soon.

Thanks for the information - great for you!
Then you can accept the offer with a clear conscience.
