@paulb

I paid it as soon as I saw the mail, just so there was no delay with it sitting in East Mids and then losing a day or so while they onward shipped it up to Aberdeen

Yup, me too.  I was able to pay while the consignment was still either in Brussels or en route to East Mids - although it still managed to sit there for a couple of days (darned weekends).

For some reason the tax was less than I expected.  Probably the correct amount, just less than I imagined DHL would sting me for 🙂

It is nice to see the BREXIT drought is coming to a close.

last time i bought a Mk3S kit i was charged £605.78 plus shipping at £11 (there were some other items in the order as well but that was the printer price) and that was last summer.

Now looking online it seems its £577.69 and then you pay VAT on top making the printer £693.22. An increase of, funnily enough 20%!

methinks i might look around and see what else is about for a second printer before buying one. Yep, i can buy through the business but ......

At that price, you purchased as a business last time then there was no VAT to pay at point of order and the same would be true now.

I purchased in February last year and paid £585.78 for the printer + £9.47 shipping.

I declared that as a reverse charge and claimed the VAT back at the same time, net cost to the business £595.25

If I order a new one now it would be £577.69 + £22.35 shipping so £600.04 in total, nothing to complain about there...

Any VAT charged by DHL would be reclaimed in the usual way so the only extra cost would be their handling charge.

No significant change so not sure why you would think otherwise?

aye, i get that and it is an advantage of buying through the business. I feel it for those that cant as they get hit with a 20% increase in price. The jump in shipping costs and the extra charges by DHL are a bit of a joke though.

Buying the larger item is not so bad but if you're only looking for a few rolls of filament the shipping kills it.

I like the Prusa but might look for something else for a second printer for the business.

I don't agree with the Brexit rules, just enables couriers to apply a charge onto a service they have already been paid for.

My understanding is that consumers paid VAT before brexit, but to Prusa instead of DHL.

However, in the current economic climate, with a shortage/price increase of electronic components impacting many sectors, and massive price increases on for example graphics cards, I don't see Prusa being ridiculous with their pricing.

Samsung have increased the price of many home products by a huge amount.

Then again, Prusa don't exactly need to increase prices, demand is huge for their products, and for the service you get along with the printer I did not grudge the price.  (As long as the quality and service doesn't drop)

24/7 support is almost unheard of on a £400 printer.

It’s been pretty normal for couriers to charge for managing VAT for shipments in the past. They just only did this for orders from outside the EU. They haven’t changed the process, for some unknown reason we did when the country voted for Brexit.

There is no increase in price though as if you were not buying it for your VAT registered business then you always had to pay the local VAT  rate of 21%, so in fact there is a 1% saving for non-VAT registered customers now...

My kit arrived in East Midlands about 6am today. "Customs status updated"

Willing it along, due to be delivered by end of day Friday, but hoping will be before then.

Should be before then. Mine took a couple of days from customs clearance.

That's my thinking as well.

Unlikely to take 3 days from East Midlands to Falkirk.

I could just about walk it in that time 😉

Darn it, so close.

Got through Brussels and East Midlands in 1 day.

Arrived in Edinburgh 6am, and looked very likely to go out today, probably missed the cut.

Looks like tomorrow

Just a quick one guys...

My Mk3s+ kit was ordered on the 13th (3-4 week lead time) and I got my tracking number notification yesterday - less than a fortnight, so happy with that!  Doesn't seem to have been picked up by DHL yet, but fingers crossed

Just want it to arrive quicker now :).  It would be great if it arrives on/before Tuesday, otherwise I won't see it for nearly another fortnight (work away from home).

@minormatt

My printer was given tracking on Thursday and I recieved it on Wednesday.

Reasonable chance of getting it by Tuesday, be sure to pay the import before it reaches the UK.

But you are in the hands of the DHL gods 😏

Well its in the UK at East Mids...

But I haven't been contacted to pay the VAT yet - so have no means to do so. Lets see what happens over the next couple of days
