Thingiverse migration tool questions

I may be dense, but I can't seem to figure out how to link my Prusa account to Thingiverse so I can start using the automated transfer/copy tool to bring my designs over there to here. I seem to recall hearing that it was/would be a feature for PrusaPrints, and the Q&A video from ERRF seemed to indicate that it is a released feature (see timestamp 17:55):

Is it an actually released feature and I just can't find it, or is it about to be released in the next week or so?

Thingiverse import is released, but not for everybody. You can ask for enable this function. Check the Tweet https://twitter.com/Prusa3D/status/1184908029642317825?s=19

Thanx. Time to fire up twitter for the second time this year... I really only use it for entering contests...

Is the import broken?   It keeps reporting validation failed.  I put the PrusaPrinters.org URL in both my Thingiverse profile and descriptoin (rmeden)

@robert-e20

No, TG import is working fine, but you have entered incorrect your TG ACCOUNT URL. You entered URL of your thing (not profile).

You entered:
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3971023

You have to enter: https://www.thingiverse.com/rmeden/about

@ondrej-stritesky

Doh!  I'm such an idiot... I think it pre-populated that field so I thought it was what I wanted to import.  Sure helps to actually read the screen.

Thanks

Robert

RE: Thingiverse migration tool questions

Something that I've noticed about the import process that currently requires manual fixing is related to embedded URLs. If I have a link in a Thingiverse description to another Thingiverse item (for example lets use https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2898226 ), when I transfer my item here the link now points to something like https://www. prusaprinters.com/prints/thing:2898226 which obviously doesn't work. I need to manually change that before publishing the item on PrusaPrinters.

I'm not sure why (because I really haven't investigated), but my suspicion is the URL in the Thingiverse description doesn't include the hostname (it is a relative path). If my suspicion is correct then the migration tool should add the Thingiverse host name to relative URL paths to make them absolute paths.

Is it still possible to get access to the migration tool?

Great.
Then I won't start migrating all of it by hand 😀
Looking forward to seeing it up and running.

Can you activate the importer for me?

And inform when the import is working again?

Would be appreciated!

@ondrej-stritesky

Sorry if I came across rude or impatient.
It is just because you wrote in your previous message that it would be ready in a few days.

The reason I'am asking is because, if it is going to be awhile before it is ready, then I will just do it manually.
But if it is ready in a couple of days, then I will just wait a bit.

That is absolutely fine, that you ask 🙂
I have planed the fix the TG import, but then the priorities changed with coronavirus and launching PrusaPrinters Groups. Now we are working on down/views counters and the next will be the TG import. So my estimate is the end of the month. I apologize for the delay compared to the estimate.

RE: Thingiverse migration tool questions

I'd just like to emphasize on what was said above: Thanks so much for providing an alternative to Thingiverse, which is really driving me nuts. I cannot understand at all, how they can run down the site with their terrible "updates", a site that poses an invaluable asset with their over 4 million uploads.

I contrast to them, you guys are doing an excellent job and even keep us users informed on your backlog priorities and on what is happening and what's coming soon.

I certainly hope that the number of designs here will grow quickly, and I will do my utmost to contribute with numerous and high quality designs. So far I have only copied over some of my stuff from Thingiverse, but if they continue to work like this, I will upload exclusively to your great side.

And this does not even take into account that I am thrilled with the Prusa brand in general. To this day, I am completely fascinated  by the precision and quality that I get from my I3 Mk3S, with it's reliability and it's easy of use. The only reason why I got an Ender3Pro in parallel (and can compare now between Prusa and Budget printers) is that my already ordered Mini in on backlog for later summer and being under lockdown I simply needed more than one printer to keep myself busy 😉

Please continue with your superb job, stay safe and stay healthy!

RE: Thingiverse migration tool questions

Hi there, another thingiverse exile here. Since they have now accidentally banned me twice. I would like to move my 108 published open-source designs over here, but the import errors out. Looks like you are working on it though. But I figure I would mention it just in case.
