Rpi3 wifi timeout, also splashtop

I think my rpi3 (octoprint) wifi is timing out. The only vid i have seen to fix it has an "exit .." command at the end of the file that needs modifying. My similar file has no exit command at the end.

Need I worry? How have others turned off the WiFi power management feature?

Also, after getting frustrated with win remote connect, astroprint cloud, and spaghetti detector, I am leaning toward spending 16 USD for splashtop. All I want to do is monitor via logitech c920 and abort, if necessary, from outside my home network.

Thoughts on splashtop or alternatives? I'm not savvy enough to do port forwarding, and I have spent way too much time trying to figure it out.

Thanks.

Probably a good idea to pose the same question on the Octoprint board.

For troubleshooting it helps to know the version of Octopi you have installed on your RPi3.

Without knowing versions, here is some general things I would try:

  • If you are not running version 17 of Octopi, I would backup your settings and install V 17.0
  • Verify that the country setting in the bottom of the octopi-wpa-supplicant.txt file is set to the correct country code.
  • If you edited  the  octopi-wpa-supplicant.txt file with notepad then you should use a program such as notepad++ so that can identify problems with the file.

For your remote access questions check the following article: https://octoprint.org/blog/2018/09/03/safe-remote-access/

One of the VPN options is probably the most secure and stable solutions.   Don't use port forwarding, which leaves your Octoprint instance open to the whole world.
