Review: Toner Plastics PLA Filament

Toner Plastics PLA: High-Quality Filament Worth Every Penny

This company is well experienced in the plastics market and is not just a 3D filament producer.  They produce multiple other products and claim to have uncompromising commitments to quality.  The one thing that is true is that Toner Plastics is an experienced company that has been making plastics since 1989,  I received a sample in one of the monthly sample boxes and elected to buy a couple of rolls after a successful sample.

The packaging was perfect. It is a heavy duty box and bible wrap to protect the spool inside of the box.  The filament is very well protected a bag that is vacuum packed.  The filament is protected from humidity by a mylar bag with a silica pack.  The spool is very durable and will definitely be reused.

I consider my self pretty experienced with 3D printing. I am on a mission to find the best quality filaments I can find. Most of what I print is for fun, but I am starting a small business to print for locals that need things made. I have been easily gone through 30 brands of filament in a year and this stuff is the best I have used thus far.

Quality: 5/5

Price: 4/5

Ease of use: 5/5

Overall: 4.5/5

CONCLUSION:

This might be one of the best PLA filaments I have used, but it does come at a price.  At a little over $30, I would consider it a budget option.  I will buy this filament again and again. It is well worth the price on Amazon.  I will tall you that it marked up on Amazon so I would buy it from Toner Plastics.  It is cheaper and arrives just as fast.  I used standard Prusa PLA settings and it printed well with no tweaking.

I will post some print images soon.

Their PLA data sheet says the OD tolerance is ±0.08. I would have expected better from a filament that costs $31. It also says the ovality is < 0.05. I'm unsure which is more important for printers with bowden tubes like the Mini.

Uh, not to be a total snot here, or a major tightwad, but I sure don't consider $31-ish to be a 'budget option' for filament.  I call it a full-price option, and admittedly a fair-price option for a first-rate filament.

However, they do not offer free shipping, and when that is added, it really jacks up the to-the-door price.

Sticker shock!

I'm used to getting almost any of the usual filaments to the door at $30 or less, and lately, Hatchbox (when it's available), Paramount, Overture etc. have been to the door at $25-ish or under.

Correction.  I missed that.  It should read: “At a little over $30, I would NOT consider it a budget option.”  Sorry.  I missed that.

Just bought a few rolls from Plastic Toner. What setup are you using ?

I am able to print a calibration square but every time I attempt a print the 1st layer does not stick after the print of the skirt (which stick very well) .

At the time of extrusion for the 1st layer, the PLA get stock to the nozzle and creates a big blob.

Do the extrusion needs to be adjusted by any chance ?

I usual print With Prussament and Jessie and never had this kind of issue.

Thank you for anyone's input.
