It's probably best to read the licences on Github (for example the slicer licence at https://github.com/prusa3d/PrusaSlicer/blob/master/LICENSE  ) for the parts you wish to use and check that you can comply with the terms of each licence.

If in any doubt on such matters you should always seek legal advice rather than relying on random people on a forum 😀 .

The printer is open source. Provided you adhere to the licensing and trademark provisions, you are probably OK legally. It is worth noting that others have tried this and can rarely source the parts and sell it competitively. TriangleLabs sells a clone kit on AliExpress for roughly $350 (sans controller) and it doesn't get very good write ups. Your target demographic will be folks that already know how to print the plastic and source parts, so your market will likely be small. So while it may be possible, it might not be a great idea.

One thing that I was not expecting, the packaging of the kit from Prusa is Grade-A logistics.  Each step has its own bag of hardware and the components were very safely packaged.  They put some time and money into planning their delivery to customers.

The other components that might be hard to source yourself would include the steel plates and ????

There are lots of clones out there on the market.

You will have plenty of competition that will continue to push the price point downward.  Are you also willing to expend time and effort supporting your users when they have trouble with the clone kits?

Personally, I strongly believe in 'you get what you pay for', and that's why I went with the original Prusa instead of a clone.  It's been relatively trouble-free.

I happen to think Josef Prusa and the little company he started are a force for good in our very mercenary world.

Starting from back in the old RepRap days, making all his designs public domain was something he did not have to do.

But the world of 3D printing is sure better off for it. So I support him when I can.
