So looks like Slic3r is becoming PrusaSlicer

I’m guessing Josef finally got sick of Tom saying “Slick-three-arr”

I guess the baseline has diverged enough that a rename will help prevent confusion.

But mostly I think it’s the “slick-three-arr” thing. 🤣 🤣 🤣

I think the fork has gone well past any chance of merging much back. Prusa re-writing it in C++ from Perl was huge. Probably best to avoid confusion.

Yep. C++ rewrite is such a huge shift, and then the interface too. It's as much a different beast from Slic3r now as Plex is from Kodi.

Well - doesn't look/work so good on my monitor - interesting that Beta2 was working great.

ps: after posting, I navigated back to that screen, and it was still mucked up; but resizing the the window a fraction of a mm and the displayed contents "snapped" to normal.  So some process isn't updating the screen properly when navigating between tabs within PS.

Has anyone else had problems loading a config bundle that was saved out from Slic3r PE 1.42.0 beta 3 into PrusaSlicer 2.0.0 RC?

RE: PrusaSlicer

Quick observations:

  • Cut & paste work.

  • Undo is still missing.

  • Any custom profiles do not come over automatically. Export a config bundle before deleting your old versions!

  • Other settings such as Simple-Advanced-Expert mode will need to be reset.

  • There's an option for "For support enforcers only" under support.

  • Don't seem to have the annoying dual title bar when full-screen on MacOS.

  • The title bar shows PrusaSlicer but includes a nice "based on Slic3r" attribution.

Some of these might have been present in previous versions.

I re-saved my config bundle out of Slic3r PE 1.42.0 beta2 (not beta3 above, that doesn't exist as far as I'm aware) and am able to load it into PrusaSlicer 2.0.0-rc. Must have been a glitch in the Matrix.

RE: PrusaSlicer

I like the new look und all the features.

But i'm missing the "Layer Height Table" from the old slic3er pe versions. For few models it was very useful to change the layer height at a specific model height.

Or did i just not found the table yet?

RE: PrusaSlicer

So I've used PrusaSlicer for a dozen projects now in the last couple of days, including three that had color changes. (thanks for the suggestion, sembazuru!). Works beautifully. Nice to have everything saved in one place. One thing I was hoping to find on the printer display is a "time to next filament change", rather that just a total time to go. I could set an alarm on my phone and do other things without checking back all the time. Is there a place where suggestions like this should be posted? I'm brand new at all this, so I don't know the ropes at all. Just got my kit last Monday, with printing starting on Wednesday. I got a lot to learn...

It is best to post your suggestions and bug reports here:
https://github.com/prusa3d/PrusaSlicer/issues

There is a menu item under Help in PrusaSlicer, which will open this link for you.

Your suggestion to show the time to the next color change is certainly meaningful and you will find out that somebody already suggested it in the issue tracker.

Please test with the release candidate 2. It shall fix some of the font scaling and layout issues.

Avast AV did not like 2.0.0 RC2 prusa-slicer.exe. Decided it was suspicious, blocked access to it and sent it off for analysis. Had to turn off Avast in order to run it. Win 10 64bit.

bubnikv...Yep, saw it on page 7 by luczjanoo on Feb 12. Figured that someone would have already suggested this obvious idea. This is in the nice-to-have category, and not a critical issue. Hope it bubbles up to be addressed eventually. Thanks for the link...

RE: PrusaSlicer

Anyone having issues with the new Prusa Slicer 2.0 when controlling the slider for color print layer preview?  I'm trying to set a color change by clicking on the slider, but when I click the mouse (I have the magic mouse on a Mac), the finger touch moves the slider to the top/bottom of the slider.  It's a bit of a pain to control the slider when setting the color change layer.

Work around is to use the up/down arrow and the + key to set a color point.  But would prefer to use the mouse.

Anyone else having File Association issues with Prusa-Slicer.exe ?  Normal install of the 2.0.0 release and .stl files no longer associated.  Had to change Prusa-Slicer.exe to PrusaSlicer.exe to gain any traction.

So now I guess it's gonna be, "Prusa--slic--eye-arr". There's just no keeping a good man down. :p

Just to be sure I've got it right: It's now pronounced "Prusa's Licer", right?
