Prusament Spool size

I've been considering getting some PRUSAMENT PETG filament from Amazon, but wanted to find out what the width of the spool size is to make sure it fits into my Rubbermaid containers that I have standardized on. Looked everywhere and there doesn't seem to be any published sizes of the actual spool.  The reason why I'm concerned is that when I first received my MK3 the Silver Filament that I received was on a VERY wide spool and it was the only filament that would not fit in my Rubbermaid container. I know that PRUSAMENT is manufactured by PRUSA and is a different "manufacturer" but I'm worried that they are using the same spool form factor and that would mean that the PRUSAMENT filament won't fit in my existing setup with Rubbermaid containers. Anyone have the actual published spool specs? (spool width, spool diameter, spool hub hole diameter?)

RE: Prusament Spool size

I just measured one of my Prusament spools and got:

Hub dia: 50mm
Width: 69mm
Full dia: between 7 13/16" and 7 7/8" (sorry didn't have a metric tape measure and my calipers are only 6". This should convert to just under 199mm.)

Hope this helps.

If you are using the 21.1 Cup or 8 Liter Rubbermaid containers with the reddish lids, then yes they fit no worries 😊 .  I have two rolls of PETG Prusament in them now.  I also have Prusament PLA in one of those those containers as well.  I could post pictures if you need.

Those old spools, pre-prusament did seem to be wider, but I think  they were made by Filamentum PM (spelling?).

The wide spools are still made Filament-PM (née Plasty Mladeč) and are both available directly from them and re-sold by Prusa as "Prusa PLA" and "Prusa PETG" filament. Only Prusament is made in-house at Prusa and has normal sized spools with a hex pattern. Fillamentum (née Parzlich) is yet another company in the Czech Republic making filament.

Thanks (everyone) for getting me the spool size, and for confirming that they will fit in the standard Rubbermaid containers that everyone seems to be using. Prusament should fit fine. Now, if Prusa will just be able to supply their filament on Amazon, I'll have another supplier of PETG filament that I can choose from.

I know this is an old thread, but I made my Rubbermaid rewinder dryboxes specifically for that wide Prusament silver spool. It is 90mm wide.

I have two versions:

  • Tall 21-cup Rubbermaid container - https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4353993
    • I find this one inconvenient to work with because the feed tube comes through the cover, making it awkward to change filaments or deal with a tangle during a print. It just barely fits the Prusament silver spool, if the rewinder hub is printed with long-ish axle.
    • The design is actually a rewinder stand that sits inside the container. The stand also works fine outside the container.
    • I don't recommend this one, although it does allow for a shorter feed tube length to the MMU2.
  • Short 16-cup Rubbermaid container - https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4354340
    • This requires printing a base (the lid of the container is the bottom of the base) and the filament feeds out from the bottom.
    • The picture shows that wide Prusament silver spool inside it. It fits the spool better than the 21-cup container.
    • I like this design. It's simple and convenient. Plenty of room for dessicant packets in the bottom too.

With my setup, I have two of each kind (one of each on each side of the printer), plus a rewinder stand without a cover behind the printer. I use that one for temporary filaments that I normally store, like dissolvable support, or ABS or PETG (which I rarely use).

Finally, that Prusament silver spool is the only Prusament I've encountered that comes on a 90mm wide. All other spools of Prusament I've bought are narrower.
