RE: Not a drop of IPA to be found due to Covid - what to clean powder coated plates with?

I was having difficulty finding IPA and turned to my gallon can of Denatured Alcohol (also sold as stove fuel for alcohol boat stoves) that I use as a less aggressive form of solvent when painting with lacquer.  Before using it I checked with Prusa Chat and they said it was safe to use on the smooth bed plate.  It does as good a job as IPA, but don't soak your hands in it since it is mildly poisonous from the methanol used to make the ethanol undrinkable.

A Google search shows Walmart carries gallon cans for $30.  Paint stores also generally carry it.

BTW, DO NOT use Rubbing Alcohol to clean the bed plate.  Look at the label and most will show lanolin (AKA sheep fat) as an additive.  It is added so as not to dry out your skin when using it for rubdowns.  Adding a fat to your plate is counterproductive when trying to remove grease from fingerprints.

Lately it seems like the 91% IPA is in short supply.

'Technical grade', meaning not for clinical use, 99% IPA is still widely available if you look around.

I also use hardware store denatured alcohol occasionally.  It seems to be better at cutting the glue stick residue than does IPA.

For anyone in UK or Ireland, RadioSpares have IPA (99.7%) in stock and will deliver at sensible prices.
