MK3S VS Mini in terms of print quality

Hey everyone,

I was wondering if someone of you have both printers, a MK3S and a Mini and have tried to print the same model with "the same settings" on each printer to see if there is a quality difference.

I have the feeling that the mini is producing nicer prints with smoother walls than a MK3S. Does the 32Bit board makes a difference in terms of print quality over a 8 bit board? What is your experience/opinion?

Cheers,

Tommy

I general, you might be right.  It is very subtle.

Hey,

Does no one else could tell me a bit more about my assumption? Would be nice to get an opinion from someone who has both printers.

Cheers,

Tommy

I only own Prusa Mini (no i3) for a few months, so I cannot give you the correct answer, but I believe the most precise will be "that depends..."

Mini uses 32-bit board, but also is little bit less rigid (when printing high objects, it can vibrate at the top) and is bowden-driven whereas i3 is direct-drive. The bowden can struggle with some types of filament, especialy with flexible ones.

From my experience with Mini, you can get pretty nice prints out of it, you just have to play with calibration of your profiles. And IMHO you would get the same quality from i3 with maybe slightly shorter print time (the best way for me to print nice on Mini is "go slow").
All of this is based on my short experience and what I have already read and watched online. Maybe somebody will step in and change my mind. I am open to new info.

@dangemask

I would agree.  Both have strength and weaknesses.
