MK3s+ upgrade & MMU2s

Hi all,

We MMU2s owners were advised in the youtube live stream to buy the MK3s+ upgrade kit, however there is no guide on what parts to print to upgrade to the new filament sensor with the new kit. There are only instructions and parts for the MK3 and MK3s upgrade path.

In those instructions sets the unly mention (in the comments) was to skip the upgrade of the extruder assembly..... thats the main part of this upgrade...

I bought this upgrade mainly in the hope that this would resolve the abysmal filament presence testing in the current MMU2s build. where are the parts to utilise the new sensor in combination with the MMU2s

Do we just need a different "Lid" piece that accepts the threaded insert??

I suspect they’re “coming soon”.

I guess either hold off or just swap out the PINDA probe? That’s the main benefit.

@cynan

Hey,

I have been a MMU user for a while.... so im used to not recieving equivalent help from Prusa.

I followed the MK3s->MK3s+ instructions... except where i didnt and i randomly substituted parts and instructionsfrom the MMU2S upgrade (current version)

I know the MMU2 users are a smaller group. But this is an active product made by Prusa

They should prioritis the instructions and kits for active configurations before going back and creating instructions for lagacy setups

This kit should have been released with instructions and model lists for

MK3s->MK3s+
MK3s&MMU2s ->MK3s+&MMU2s

first, before they went on to the

MK3->MK3s+

users

For me the new PINDA is slower than the old, but the IR sensor and latest STL's have improved the functionality of the MMU2s. Before that was my most frustrating part, auto loads tripping the "overloaded" (i.e it thinks the filament is jammed and trying to bulge ou the door) no matter how much you fiddled and adjusted the setup.

RE: MK3s+ upgrade & MMU2s

I noticed on GitHub there are newer MMU2 STLs as well, marked with the Mk3s+ tag. Think they’re new top cover parts.. but no to sure.

It’s not great of them no, but giving them the benefit of the doubt, perhaps they were so excited and wanted to announce something for Black Friday before they were fully ready.. and these are the consequences. Can’t please everyone 🙁

Hopefully when they do come out it won’t chance to much and you won’t have to redo what you have done so soon.

Glad the MMU2 is working better for you. I keep thinking of buying one but would not use it enough to justify and not sure I’m ready for battling with the issues.

The guide is here, but it seems you do have to upgrade the extruder to Mk3S+ first, at least the first part up to and before the idler and FS top.

RE: MK3s+ upgrade & MMU2s

Yeah, if you need to follow instructions it is
1 full disassembly of MK3s & MMU2s (which they dont provide the instructions for)

2 full assembly of a MK3s+
3 full disasembly of a MK3s+

4 Full assembly of a MK3s+ & MMU2s

When all they need to do is provide the 3 or 4 steps of deviation from the MK3s -> MK3s+ instructions, and a slightly ammended model print list to include those 5 parts

Not much effort on their behalf, to provide support to an active product line

To be clear, you had to dig on the forums to find links on github to the 5 stl's you need and then you nneded to work out to skip all the internal magnet and sensor parts and a few other bits like making sure you had the slack on the filament sensor wire

Its a really easy change to the instructions, and it would prevent uncertanty and digging.

@Kahnindustries

I'm in the same situation as you running the MK3s and the MMU2S, I just received my Super Pinda upgrade kit... please help me to find the right parts to print to have a full upgrade. What are the correct files and where to find them?

one piece needed for MMU2S upgrade for MK3S+

When I got my MK3S and MMU2, there was no MK3S+ upgrade, and therefore there was a piece missing to be able to finish. Thanks to above posters, I found it at the github: https://github.com/prusa3d/Original-Prusa-i3/releases/tag/R6

The only piece I am short is the adapter-printer-mmu2s.stl

The others all appear to be part of my MMU2 that I already have.

Also, they updated the instructions for MK3S+ upgrade to MMU2S at: https://help.prusa3d.com/en/guide/3a-mk3s-extruder-upgrade_188808
