Is neon PLA filament abrasive?

Hello, I was wondering if anyone knows if neon filament is abrasive, After doing a search, I only found info. on glow in the dark filament being abrasive due to the chemical, strontium aluminate. There is no info on neon filament being abrasive? Does anyone know? I would appreciate any insight. Thanks in advance.

As far as I know, neon filament is fluorescent by added dye, I really doubt it'd be any different than non-florescent types, though I am mostly guessing. Personally, I certainly would not be afraid to print it with a standard brass nozzle.

I use the Prusament Neon Green PETG a lot.  It's all done with dye, and I have not noticed any difference between how neon or non-neon works (though I use lots of UV enhanced filaments - as many as I can find).

This is not an all-inclusive list of abrasive materials:

  • glass or fiberglass containing filaments
  • carbon fiber-containing filaments
  • metals flake filaments
  • glow in the dark filaments
  • wood filaments
  • Natural fiber filaments - hemp, cork, etc
  • stone or ceramic filaments

I have yet to see a neon filament that is abrasive.

Thanks Chuck for sharing your test results using Super Lube 51004 Synthetic Oil . I have three questions. 1) Does this also work to keep the rubber belts from drying out and cracking? If not, could you provide an alternative for keeping the belts from cracking/drying and potentially tearing? 2) Does Super Lube 51004 Synthetic Oil replace the Prusa grease that comes with the printer? 3) Can you use it on the threaded rods? I will be purchasing some as soon as possible.

@1derman

I don't put it on my belts.  I put it where there is metal to metal contact.

@1derman

The belts do not require any agents added to them. Doing so will probably cause them to degrade soon.

Do not lubricate the threaded rods - lubricants can affect the T-nut material which is self lubricating. SuperLube is especially bad for them (personal experience).
