How to fix the Prusament filament getting entangled during printing?

Hi, haven't used my PLA filament for a few weeks. Tried it today but every time in the middle of the print, the filament got entangled. The extruder had to pull very hard to get the filament. The PETG that I use often these days also has this issue but not that often. What caused such entanglement? Is there any good way to prevent this from happening and if it does happen, how to fix this issue?

Pictures are always helpful for error analysis. Which printer do you use?

Hi, here is a photo. I am using i3 MK3. Even I lined up the filament again, they got entangled.

In one print, I heard scratching sound when the extruder was working hard to pull the filament. Even I had to pull hard to help the extruder to get the filament.

While the printer was still printing, I took the filament roll out from the holder on top of the printer and lined up the filament. After I put it back to the holder, the problem reappeared soon. This happened multiple times in one print lasting about two hours.

Filament tangles like you have is 100% something you did wrong. At some point you must have let the end of the filament go and it spun around the spool and when you got ahold of the end again, it was tangled and you didn't notice. You are going to have to unroll the filament a bit until you are sure you have it untangled and then wind it back up.

If the spool was indeed wound by machine at the factory, this should not happen unless the person using it let it get tangled.

Yes, it's happened to me, and I first blamed the filament, but after thinking about it, yes, I was leaving the end loose after a print was finished and I unloaded it.

I tried clips, and none of them worked very well, so after that I always, judiciously, tuck the tail end into one of the holes in the rim. It has not happened since.

Agreeing with everyone above, particularly not letting an unattached filament end to "freewheel" because of it's "torsion spring" properties. If you are careful, you CAN "train" the winding by taking the spool off of its holder (leaving the end anchored in the extruder, and backing away from the machine, unwinding and "unknotting" as you go. Once you have it unknotted, rewind carefully, maintaining some tension in the filament until you can replace it on the holder. If it re-knots again in a short time, you didn't "back-off" far enough in the first place.

If it happen  you can see the filament under an another and this block the unwinding filament   and i see that on your picture !

If you leave the filament free, this happens. Take the filament and passe it out the loop.

Always monitor your print to control this for a while. It happened to me and the noise alerted me,   aïe  ouf !  little fear  😶  .
